Gas jugs for VE tunnel?

I need a gas can or 2 for my sled and its tough to find any locally cause of the new vent/spill CARB laws. I have a VE boondock tunnel and i would like to find 2 2.5's that would fit or one approx 3-4 gal can. Anyone know of good cans? A 9 gal fuel tank plus one 2.5 can is hardly enough fuel for a full day's ride with a big bore sled. Any ideas?

gas can

Talked to Tim at mountain addiction tonight and the new 3 gallon can should be ready by the end of the week and shipping next week thx wayne

That's right, our new 3.5 gallon jug will be available next week! The jug utilizes our same rail system....kiss those bungies, straps and cords goodbye!!

I have the same tunnel on my apex. I talked with Mike and what I did was got three additional cross rods and put them just above the tunnel skin so the cans rest on them instead of the skin. I use a 2.5 gallon can. works great.

Highmarker, hold that thought, before you make any decisions let me take pictures of my sled tonite with tims setup on it. It is not the most conventional but works amazing and looks pretty trick. Hint: Still uses the track rack system but mounts between the fish fin looking brackets on the boondock tunnel:):beer;

ridnhigh- i will have to see that. sounds even better.

Jugs

Here ya go...

Used two quarter inch by three stainless bolts to fasten through the tunnel. I used three inchers so that the end of the shank that stuck up through the rack was smooth. Cut the heads off of them obviously in order to slide the jugs over them.

Counter sink the bottom of the rail to fit over the nut on top of the tunnel, and install some sort of padding or rubber mat on the tunnel.

Use a washer and then mark where the cotter pins will hit the bolt, then remove the hardware and use a drill press to drill for your pins. I actually went like a 1/16 lower than my marks to keep them tight on rails. Use a nail set to get a flat spot on the bolts to start the drill press

All in all turned out pretty slick i think, the jugs stay tight on the rails and seperated that two inches where the fasteners are...had to trim the rails like a 1/16th or a lil more to get them to fit between the tunnel braces but other than that you just install and take apart about 15 times to get the right fit. The only thing that i might worry about is be supe careful picking where you mount the pins obviously you cant drill through the coolers...and there may be flex like a bow when the jugs are full of fuel because they are only fastened in the center...But like i said i like the looks.
