Gas Guage not working

I searched, couldn't find anything worth while. My 09 M8 Sp is new to me with about 300 miles on it total. Gas guage is all over the place, not even close to working. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

went thru this at the top of st helens today my buddy and i those things aint worth a shet figure 6.5 mpg and you can make it home, hey did i pass you on lb today

is it still in one piece or has it come apart and laying in the bottom of the tank? i know on mine 1/3 of a tank is half full...

Mine came apart in the tank, the glue that hold it together gets eaten by the fuel and lets the gauge spread apart
