Should a 2012 pro 800 have an electronic gas gauge?

Buddy does not like his electronic one on his new cat, not he easiest to read, drops fast and blinks at him with 2 gallons left. Not sure if this is consistent yet. My thinking, if you are worried about gas take extra or head back with 50% left.
