Garage ramp slope?

I’m looking at building an addition onto my garage at home. The garage floor of the addition will be at a lower height (about 18”-24”) due to the way the grade slopes going out behind my garage. I was thinking about maybe building a concrete ramp to be able to go from one section to the other (there will be a door between the two as the addition will not be heated). Has anyone ever built something like that before? I’m wondering what the slope would need to be to decide if it would be worthwhile to do or if it would just eat up too much garage space.

Thanks for the help!

I guess it would depend on how big/what type of door you have between areas and what you would be using the ramp for. How big is the addition and what are you going to mainly use it for?

If it's big enough for a sled or wheeler to get through to each side, I would prob just go about 6/12 slope so you don't eat up too much space. Seems like it would be steep enough not to go too far out, but not too steep to get stuck on or slip on all the time (definitely stamp some texture into it like a cross-walk ramp for extra traction).

If it's just a plain ol' swinging door that isn't being driven through I would just do steps.

I would think it would be a roll up door or a sliding door between the two. Something that I can get a good seal with. It would be wide enough to drive a car/pick-up through I would think so the slope would have to be gentle enough for that. Maybe be backing the floe trailer down it at times.

By back yard does not have great access to it. Getting a pick-up back there is no problem but you can’t get a truck and trailer back there. I was thinking it would be nice to be able to run the truck and trailer in from the front of the garage and leave the entire rig hooked.

My current garage is 32' wide by 24' deep; the addition would be 26' wide by 40' deep. Basically making a large "L" shape.

I was thinking that I would run the slope out 10' (11* slope or 2.4/12 or 20%) to 15' (8* slope or 1.6/12 or 13.4%). I was just not sure on it.

I would say just measure your trailer to determine your maximum departure angle from the axle back to the tail of the trailer and then add a little so that you are sure that the trailer will never scrape bottom when you pull it through there....

If your trailer sits 2 ft off the ground at its lowest point, and the axle is 8 ft from the back of the trailer, then a 10 ft ramp should be close... the flatter you make the ramp the better, just depends how much space you can afford to give up. If you can afford to give up 15 ft to your ramp, your that much better:beer;

I've got a 14' Floe Protector with the upgraded large tires on it That should clear no matter what I do. I think the deck height is over 24".
