I have an 32x34 garage and want to install a heater before winter. What would you guys recomend. I don't want to keep it real warm all the time maybe around 40 but would like to crank it up when i go out to work on something so you can just wear a long sleeve shirt and be comfortable. What kind of a heater do you recomed? I have 2x4 wall with the highest r value insulation isulated garage doors, and r 50 insulation blown into the attack.

Well if i was in Bismark I would have radiant heat backed up with some Tiger Torches and maybe a Hot muff,J/K.Just put a radiant heater in the garage and can't wait for winter.

ZR,

I'm in Minot so I know what temps you need to deal with. If you can run natural gas to your garage that would be the best bet. My garage is 28x36 with 10ft walls and fully insulated. I mounted a 100k furnace up near the ceiling running from a thermostat. It stays at 45 all the time and gets to 65-70 in about 15 min.

I researched many heating ideas before pulling the trigger on this setup. Just spend the money and do it right. You want a bigger heater than recommended otherwise it will take forever to heat up.

garage heater

Get a Modine. I had one in a 24x20 with the same insulation, had the 45,000BTU. I have one inmy new garage ,24x26, and have no problem at all warming it up. They come in either propane or natural gas, hangs on the roof, easy install.

x2 on the gas setup

I don't know what size my furnace is, but it keeps my 36x46 shop toasty warm. I usually keep it about 60 and crank it up as required once I'm out there. It's a Reznor ceiling hung unit.

I can't get natural gas but can get propane. If it is a natural gas heater they can be converted over right?

Have a gas modine in mine. It's nice, flip the switch, turn the thermostat up and instint heat and the best part is you can control it. My old place had a big azz wood stove and I could get it hot enough in there to make you sweat it was hard to control and took awhile to heat up. The gas set up is much better.

it ain't pretty but it works for my 2 car garage

I have a 76,000 BTU Rough Neck gas heater in my garage that works well and an ordinary house thermostat to regulate it. If your on an acreage then there are different types of wood stoves available but with that you will have insurance issuses I'm sure.

I have a Reznor Ceiling mounted natural gas heater in my 34'X28' Garage. It is a 45,000BTU Furnace which is run by a thermostat. I keep my garage at 40 degrees all winter long. I do wish that I would have used a 65,000BTU though just so on the really cold days it would heat up faster.
