Garage heater options, questions

Need a garage heater, I have 120 service and natural gas rough in already in a ceiling corner. It’s an attached garage, insulated, 1000 sf, 10-11 foot ceilings, 2 garage doors, 3 windows and 2 service doors. I am looking for something to keep it around 40 when I’m not using it but I want something with enough BTUs to warm it up to 50-60 when I will be working in the garage. Three are more brands out there than you can shake a stick at, and like everything I know you get what you pay for, but I have seen some as low as $400 and some as high as $1400 for the same BTU capabilities. Any brand suggestions, install tips, size? Online they have a size chart but it ask what temp you want to keep it at, so I have been plugging in my temp I would like it to get to even though I’ll be keeping it at a much lower temp 90% of the time. I have also been leaning towards forced air since i want to ramp up the temp quick and then bring it back down, but would it be smarter to spend a little extra $ and go with NG radiant heat? Are they as efficient as they advertise, can you still adjust temps with them or should it stay a constant temp? Thanks for the help!

I have a Reznor overhead natural gas heater in my 2 1/2 stall attached garage. It is a 75000 btu unit with a forced air fan on the back. It heats my garage very well, even in extreme cold! You can set the thermostat from 35 to 75, and it will cycle on and off as needed. I have a 16' door that is insulated, as is the whole garage. I have two service doors, and four windows (all double pane). It will heat from 40 to 65 in a very short time.

Hope this gives you some idea,
SD

Thanks for the info. What type did you go with?

I have a Mr Heater 75,000 BTU heater in lower garage and main garage

I would go forced air NG as recommended above.

I LOVE the feel of radiant heat, but some downsides are...

They heat objects (like vehicles). So when you back vehicle out of garage you remove much of the heat & recovery time is longer.

Also they lose efficiency as the reflector becomes dirty.

Lastly, garage ceilings typically are too low to allow safe distance.
(we burned the paint off of a bronco that was up on a car hoist once!)

X2 on the paint issue with radiant.... even if it doesn't burn it there can often be long term paint issues from parking your vehicles under one. You will also find it to be super cold working on or near the floor as radiant tends to warm objects rather than the air. It is nice and quiet tho.

I have a 60K BTU Reznor in the garage (similar size as yours) and it is more than adequate.
