Gallagher 3-26 Ride

Snow was 1 ft. plus deep cold in morning but warmed right up. It was a great day until I broke down . It took 5 good friends to get me out of Gallagher and almost 6 hours. I have been towed out before but never this bad of a spot. I can not Thank my friends enough for helping me and making sure we all got back to truck 11 hours later.Oh and the guy that gave me an extra tow strap. Here is so before and after pics of the day. Thank You Brian, Rick,Jim and Brian :beer;:):)

Just leave your tab open at the old 3:D:beer;:D:beer;Glad we got it out of there but want a pain. I love a day off work to help friends ride then tow, drag, push and pull. I'm getting my drinking cap out

Bummer

Sorry to hear about that.
I was one of the crew that was there right about the time you snapped those shots.
Which sled broke and what happened?

Sorry about the repeat but by the looks of things the chain and the gears went out. That was fun for the drag out with no brakes. He had a exciting time going down the hills, not so fun coming up the hills push pull drag:eek: I was so beat the camera was not an option at any point not fun for all. Glad to see it out but next time the heli is in order whats the #:)

Next time call Graveler for the heli...
Better yet call up Ryan Conner at R&R Conner Aviation, if his heli's can pull out a 3000lb load of logs out of the woods with no problems, imagine what he can do with a sled. That guy is good with that heli, know him well, friend of the family.

Gallagher sled retrievals can be very interesting. Just ask Brian and Nikki.

It was chain that broke

I took it apart this morning and found chain laying in the bottom . No other damage I can not believe nothing else broke inside . 1999 Mt. Cat 800 . So off to get chain to go up again . See Ya

that looks like a nice area.

I carry a spare chain after that happened to me a long time ago. Even if you break the chain case you can put on the new chain and ride out. it will last without gear lube for a while. Just leave the chain case shell off.

if you are worried about carring the extra weight, keep it in the truck and someone can ride back and get it.

beats the nasty tow up hill and the down hills with no brakes!

Great idea, but I think I'd leave some lube in the truck with the chain B4 I ran w/o. Either that, or have the sled on it's side with the cover off. Keep the old lube from draining?

i do have gear oil in the trailer but, both of my personal chain breaking events included "ported" chain cases from the broken chain balling up and being forced thru the case by the bottom gear spinning. after the first one i carried a spare chain, on the second one, I rode out that day with the exposed chain, about 15 miles of boondocking and ten miles of trail.

i started changing out the chain every year and would carry the used one with me.. since then i haven't broken a chain... go figure. but i have had the chance the give a chain to guy on the hill who needed it, he had a broken case too. these where in ZX chassis ski-doos. he looked at me like i was crazy, but i'm sure he made it out that day. people wonder why my sled weighs soo much. my tunnel bag must weigh 30 pounds . LOL
