FYI Don't buy an "Ez-Traxx" sled lift

I just got this thing shipped to me today, put it together, lifted the back of the sled up with it, put it back down to adjust it, then on the second time I lifted ... the peice holding the strap to the bracket bolted to the handle broke off and went flying off somewhere.

I figure if it breaks that easily for me the rest of you probably don't want one either.

:o

This is the one I am talking about ...

Pretty tinny :(

I don't know but there is no way in hell that lift has a 300-lb capacity. I wasn't trying to pick up more than 200 for sure with it and it broke.

I guess I'm just out the $50 I paid to get it shipped quick :o

But, apparently Dennis Kirk expected it to be a POS because they actually shipped me a pre-paid UPS shipping label to send the thing back

I guess that's kudos to them but it's still kinda frustrating cuz I needed to pull this skid and see what is going on with it

I drilled a hole in my rafter in the garage, ran a bolt threw it. And use a tow strap to tie that to the sled.

I don't own the house I'm living in, I'm just renting a room and 1/2 of the garage ... I don't think the guy would let me hang a sled from the rafters, he's kind of a ninny when it comes to that type of thing ...

Just lay the sled on a blanket on its left side (helps if the gas and oil tanks are almost empty)

before you send that lift back. Take it to a fab shop and have them look at it and weld you up a strong one.....

Actually, I just sort of improvised ... the lift handle is hollow so you can put a hook in it. I just used a smaller ratchet strap I had and hooked it on the end, then routed it through where the original one was.

It'll work, but I still don't like the lift .... the way the base is, you can't put any 2x4's under it easily if you need extra lift height. My rails are only about 4" off the ground as it is, I dont think I can remove the entire skid with it like this.

That's pretty sad. I only payed $45 for mine total from Princess Auto and it works great, besides for the fact that I need to block it up because it doesn't lift high at all. I've even stood on my running boards with it on the stand and it hasen't broke, yet!

Is that blood all over the backdrop?

That looks like a piece of sh*t.

YEap, that's what I did, big eye bolt through the 2x4's across the top of my garage, lift it with a ratchet strap or two... I wouldn't trust working underneath it, but it works great to get the tail end of the sled off the ground.

I dunno. The design has some merit, just needs a little tweeking. I think I'll build one.

To be safe, I took a 4x4 and spanned 3 rafters.
Slightly shimmed the outside 2 so they would bear the initial weight,
as the load flexes the 4x4, it contacts the middle rafter so all 3 are sharing the load.
