Fusion 700 plastic brake duct removal

Hi guys,

Has anyone permanently removed the plastic air duct that feeds cool air to the brakes. Would removing this air duct improve engine compartment
temperatures? I already have the slp vents installed, just wondering if doing this would help more. Would removing the duct effect anything other than brake temperature? Thanks.

I have removed mine, none of the newer sleds come with them anymore so they obviously are not a big issue. I have enough vents in my hood to keep my brake cool anyways. I was mostly annoyed by the lack of screening on the stock duct.

For anyone else interested in this, the newer IQ RMK hoods have a screen to replace the duct. It is large holed but it's easy to put some additional screen on it. I wish I had a picture but my cave of a garage still has no lights or power.

The circled portion is the new screen. Also guys if you're having problems with item 14 falling out like I was, upgrade. The new ones use a screw and backing piece to hold it in place.

I took mine out too a long time ago with no problems. I also took out all the other hood plastic guards under the headlight.

If you don't have pow over the hood this should work perfectly fine. I wouldn't be too worried.

I wonder if I should just leave mine in, trails have alot frequent braking than hill climbin' and mountain rides. Wadda' think?

The worst that could happen is decreased performance till it cools but I don't forsee that happening. Which at that point you can just slap it back in when you get home or to the trailer for next time.

I used to do some superbike track riding when I lived in texas and can tell you what to expect in too much heat. On a below freezing day, you are very unlikely to even get that brake up to operating temp.

My vote is bye bye brake duct.

Ya, I wouldn't think it would hurt anything either.... I took mine off this summer, and then decided to put it back in just because I didn't want a large un-screened hole. The newer grill idea does sound nice, I hadn't really paid attention to that, lol:beer;

Just make sure that whatever you do you dont accidentally leave the parking brake on and try to start riding, if you manage to get going with the brake left on that is a good way to burn your sled to a crisp! Once those break pads catch fire it spreads faster than new wilderness areas! Sorry, I know that was a little off-topic;):beer;

Thats a cool idea, think mine is coming out soon too. If I have a SLP airbox, it shouldn't be a issue even with POW over the hood, right?

I took mine out the first day I had the sled . Never had a problem and I have ridden in powder over the hood many times.
