Furnace Venting question

I am going to take out a wall on the main level of my 2 story house.

The problem is the exhaust vent for the furnace that is in the basement runs up the wall I want to remove.

My furnace is not a high eff. it was installed in 1988.

My question is, can I run the vent out just above the foundation? Like some of the high eff. furnace's are vented.
I have heard you can, if for every inch you go vertical you need to go horizontal.

If I remember right, you need two feet clearance from the exit of the pipe to anything combustible. So if you stick it out two feet from the house.......? It would look like a giant....:D
As far as slope 1/4" per foot rise.

No better time than right now to yank out that 80%er and stick in a high effecient anyhow. If you go 95% or better they are giving a 30% of the cost back in tax credit. Up to a $5000 job, or $1500 back.

Something to chew on.....

if your talking actual chimminey...i don.t think so but check it out real well to be certain...as well other considerations that high efficiency furnaces need and you would as well at Least..are limits /distances from opening window/doors/mechanical inlets/and snow line etc...you could go through the wall and scoot up through your soffit..??..box it in with proper clearance going up the wall with insulation for proper draw in winter

Call the local building inspectors office. They will be able to tell you any rules that apply.
I think the only furnaces that can be run out just above the foundation is a high efficency unit.

Thanks!!

And thanks for all the replys.

I own a HVAC business and hear are your option's. If the furnace you have now is not power vented it will need to be raised at least above your sofit and facia ( the venting not the furnace). If you have a power vented furnace you should be fine with a pitch back to the furnace and out the sidewall. The pitch doesn't have to be extreme but just enough so condensation won't run to the outside of the venting and cause ice build up. Hope this help's.
