fuel pump question

2007 rmk 660 h.o.

how do i verify if my fuel pump is doing what its supposed to do?

Do i need the carbs and everything hooked up to see its working?

my sled doesn't want to stay running. Thought it was the carbs... they are clean, new carb boots, cleaned reeds, throttle cable adjusted.

Sled will idle rough or die... sometimes i can get the sled to rev up for a few seconds.. other times it just bogs like its not getting fuel. Little starting fluid through the air box and she perks right up..

sled won't re fire until its sat for a minute or so.

If my impulse hose is connected and the fuel is turned on.. and i pull the sled over, should the gas come shooting out of the hose? what kind of pressure does that pump create?

Thanks

The carbed fuel pumps are around 5 psi or so.

I seriously doubt it's the fuel pump, usually when the pump diaphragm goes bad the fuel fills up the crank case.

I would check the following:

1) Fuel line pick-up inside the gas tank, make sure it hasn't cracked fallen apart or floating on top

2) IF there's old fuel in the tank, pump out ALL of it and put it into your daily driver, and fill with FRESH fuel

3) You may have broken reeds

4) Did you use a rubber tipped blow gun to blow thorough the PILOT & MAIN jets when you had the carbs apart?

5) Clogged Fuel filter

Hope this helps to solve your problem

Fuel line is fine

Gas is fine

Reeds are perfect

Have to reinstall the carbs and try again.. but they were perfectly clean.
Jets blown out

I'll check the filter. But the gas line did not spit any gas when pulled. I also did have a puddle of gas on my trailer after the morning it didn't run right...

Pretty sure you need to rebuild yor fuel pump!!!

Take the lines going to the carbs Disconnect them have them running to a bucket or a drain pan... Pull sled over you should see LOTS of fuel coming out!! the lines!!

This is your problem!!

I like that answer! I pulled it a couple dozen times and got nothing more than a little gravity flow from the tank... def nothing i needed a bucket to catch...

any idea what brand fuel pump polaris uses... and what kind of rebuild kits are out there? I see a lot of rebuild kits online.. but havn't found a specific reference for the oem pump

Now you tell us......................................................

POLARIS used to use MIKUNI pumps

NOT sure what's on your sled

look at the pump itself, name is on the casting
