Fuel lines and pump

I know this is a total newb question but here is goes anyway. I'm trying to take off my fuel tank but can't figure out how to disconnect the fuel lines from it and I don't want to start yanking on the thing and break something. Could someone please explain the best way to disconnect the fuel lines or even the pump from the fuel tank? TIA

You need to go to an auto parts store and buy the fuel line disconnect kit. I think it's 3/8" but I could be wrong.

Find the one that fits, clip it over the line with the small end going into the connector. Push the disconnect tool in while slightly pulling on the larger of the two connectors. It may take a little bit of effort to push the disconnect tool in far enough to get it to release the fuel lines. When it goes in far enough, the lines come apart.

Napa is a good place to find these. DO NOT go to Harbor Freight, I bought their's and the plastic was too thin to release the lines. Also, the metal ones may be to long to work, at least the one I bought was.

I believe it's the 2nd one from the left (not the smallest) that you need to use. Yes they can be tough, push the plastic piece in (may require a bit of force to push it in) and then pull on the larger fuel line connector.

make sure you have the fuel line pushed as far on as possible.. then with the fuel line in one hand and the tool in the other push them together.. then slide off the end.

I had similar problems on my 05 9 and that was the ticket.... get the disconnect tool into the line and then push the 2 together before you try to pull the line apart and it will come right off.... Those suckers really have a good grip sometimes:eek:

I finally got it. The issue was that the disconnect tool that I had originally purchased didn't have a large enough outside diameter to release the pins inside so it still couldn't get over the lip on the fitting. Went and got another one and it came off in 2 seconds. Thanks everyone.
