Fuel Injection Tuning

At Bazzaz, we've been working with a lot of folks running Timbersled kits recently with performance issues in the snow and at high altitude. Our fuel controller with self mapping kit allows you to overcome these issues pretty easily. It accounts for temp, air pressure, humidity, exhaust, fuel type, and a host of other variables to adjust the fuel/air mixture for peak performance.

Here's a link to a PDF brochure (2-pager) that we made just for the snow bikes. Enjoy. And let me know if you have any questions or have feedback for us.

Fi bikes do need help

Your system looks good. At this time we have been running the JD 6X on the KTM.

I looked at your pdf file and did not see the price. What does your system cost?

I've ridden a KX450 with the Bazzaz tuner on it and all I can say is that the bike was explosive. When I upgrade to a fuel injected system I will be putting one of these on my bike. Very easy to install and change the settings. Great product.

Thanks, Rush!

The price will depend on where you purchase from, of course, but our MSRP is 324 for the Z-Fi MX fuel controller and 299 for the ZAFM self mapper.

The self mapper is universal, so you can share it between bikes. You can also load and save multiple maps on the fuel controller.

Hey everybody,
I am a distributor for the Timbersled Mountain Horse. While working daily with the dealer network and customers, and understanding the unique performance needs of the bikes at high altitudes and cold temperatures, I have been searching for a fuel/air fix that would give us what we want. I have visited with the folks at Bazzaz on the issues we face with getting the best performance from our bikes in our unique situation with temperature, altitude. They have been a great help. I have the Bazzaz unit and the Z-AFM self mapper on my 2011 KX450. The Bazzaz system is perfect in that it allows us to create a map precisely for each riders exact conditions. This unit is easy to install, easy software to use and only took a few minutes. I installed the Z-FI as per instructions, about 15 minutes, then the Z-AFM and AFR probe and headed to our favorite riding area. As per the instructions, i started the recording of my current AFR numbers, rode for 20/30 minutes, stopped the recording, then applied all the recommended changes. I noticed the recommended changes were quite large, meaning our factory settings are way off for our situation. I repeated the process a second time to precisely dial it in. Then un-plugged it and was done.
The end result is what we all want to see!!! I fired it up, and it was a different bike!!! It is explosive and silky smooth. I am now blasting by my buddies in 3rd gear with my ski a foot off the snow, while they are groaning along in second gear!!! I will post some video footage.
I had no idea what we were missing. I feel this is a "must have" option, the best performance mod you can do for your self... period
Timbersled Products may be offering this controller as an accessory.
Thanks Bazzaz!

Great info. I have an 11 crf 450. The bike seems to run perfect, it has been mapped for rough elevation and temp though. My problem is maintaining a decent water temp. On hard snow days the bike runs fine, but on powder days I can't seem to keep it warm, even with the radiators blocked.

Are you seeing more consistant temps with the controller and auto tune?

I get nervous about how quickly water temps drop below 100° in the powder. When this happens, the hondas end up with large amounts of gas in the motor oil.

Yep, we are seeing the same thing up here. Randy (mtn-doo) was doing some R&D on that during our last ride and he was able to get the temps up around 140ish after adding a thermostat to the line. I'll make sure he makes a post about this very thing.

My oil changes definitely do smell like gas. The temps are an issue.

low temps

i got this idea from some friends in montana, i put a 3/4" ball valve in one of the lower rad lines, that way you can turn one rad off until you get up to temp, i just have the factory effex temp stickers to keep tabs on things.

I have the same bike as you (2011 kx450). At 5000 to 6000 ft. it seems to run rough in the mid range and is a little harder to start, but it cleans out at higher revs. I certainly can't pull the ski a foot off the ground in 3rd. So what you are saying is this will clean up the roughness and give me more top end?

Yes, that is an understatement! When I applied the recommended changes, I first reviewed the changes out of curiosity to see. Wow! The changes were quite large from every throttle position and every RPM across the whole spectrum! You will think you are riding a totally different bike. It will run perfectly smooth and produce HUGE performance gains. Four of us went for a rip the other day. They all "pop" and snort etc. from time to time, but mine ran perfectly smooth and totally rips. It is money WELL spent for sure. If you have questions on making your map, let me know. I would be glad to help share what I've learned.

I put in a thermostat with a crack temp of 70C which is 158F. It raised my temps 50 degrees. Works very well and no over heating. I am leaving it. It works perfectly.
I recommend getting ahold of "Barry" at Performance Motorsports. He has a lot of time and experience with R & D on this issue. He is working on some ideas for everyone right now. He may have a product for us to solve this issue soon.
We need a new thread for the temperature issues to keep this thread on subject.

Power commander with auto tune for snow bike?

Anybody run the power commander V with auto tune on there snow bikes? Sounds like a similar unit to the bazzaz.

Very interested in hearing more about this product. I just bought a ton of parts through KMS Performance to upgrade my 2010 KX450F fuel injected:

-Big Bore Kit
-Bored Throttle Body
-Polished Head w/ Over Sized Valves
-Performance Intake and Exhaust Cams
-FMF Full Exhaust w/ Mega Bomb

I'm going to either need a Power Commander or this thing....will it be able to do the job for me modifying so many things??

When these threads from 4-5 years ago get bumped it's always hilarious to see how much perceptions have changed. lol :)
No kidding.

Denver, Im sure you can get a dobeck gen 4 setup to rail on yours. Might need a little bit of a tweak to the base map for your setup but nice thing about the closed loop. Dialed in and rocking all the time cold or warm.

DenverSnowBike,
Excellent setup that you have going there for your KX! Should be a real runner.
Kelly at KMS does some fantastic work and is wonderful to work with chosing Dynojet products to fuel his rides. Whether its a turbo kit or adding all of these hard parts as you are, the Power Commander V has fulfilled his needs.
Despite our low snow year, the 2014-2015 season was exceptional for Dynojet in the Snowbike industry. Working directly with the boys at TS to fuel their KTM big bore 520 and 610 showed them exactly what the PCV can do with 100% positive results being a set-and-forget setup. Throwing any fellow rider on their bikes was no sweat as they ran consistent day in and day out never having to make a change.
Also on board with us are the Aerocharger guys for their KTM turbo kit released late last spring choosing the Power Commander V. What a pleasure it is to work with such a fun company who push man and machine to new boosted heights.

With a hefty build list such as your's Denver, adding the optional Autotune might be worthwhile as it will keep your AFR spot on where you set day in and day out - as Dangler613 had asked about. It monitors the exiting air:fuel ratio of your exhaust and relays the information to the fuel controller. Inside the PCV, you input exactly what Target AFR you want to run at all conditions - whether idle, WOT, any range in between, or some little chunk in the map say from 10-20% throttle for a few hundred RPM - every PCV can fuel to a different AFR in any adjacent cell. Once you've entered your target AFR's, simply go ride...that's it....the PCV and AT will build a map for your bike automatically as you ride. Autotune will apply trims real time to add the fuel for your big bore....or, perhaps you have an injector clogging or snow starting to plug your intake prefilter, the PCV can trim fuel plus or minus to prevent it from going too rich/lean. After a day, you can view what you had for a base map, compare the Trims where AT has picked up the slack and then accept those trims if you think your bike is running where you'd like it - or toss them out and go for another tuning session. The PCV keeps these tables separate (yet are still both applied at the same time) so you can view exactly where Autotune has been tweaking the map.
Moreover, once you've gone through this cell ONE time - if the AFR was not at that Target you set, it has already made one lap through the fuel correction and will already have it at the target the next time you get there.

AND - we never stop adding more fun to the mix around here - check out the release of C3 Mobile App now available on GooglePlay to download for your Android Phone!! Now you can tune from your phone...just like has been asked for by so many snow users. Check out http://www.powercommander.com/powercommander/ for more details!!!

Thank you for your interest in Dynojet Products!

TJ, thanks so much for the information! I'd love to hear more...send me a PM with your number and let's get the ball rolling!

Send me a PM as well with your contact info. I have a boost project in the works. Any power commanders have timing adjustment for KTM/husky?
