Fuel/Gas type in the 900

Whatever the manual calls for. You can run premium if it calls for 87 for insurance against bad fuel, but you won't make more power with a stock engine!!!

Best fuel is fresh fuel!!

Anywhere up to 100 octane with lots of mods!!!

It all depends on the volumemetric efficiency of your motor and air density. Low elevation and cold days = Higher air density and I run mid grade. Warmer days and high elevation = lower air density = less air compressed into the combustion chamber area. Run lowest octane on these days for best power. Low octane fuel burns faster making slightly more power in short stroke motors. High octane fuels burn slower to control detionation in high compression motors. Super chargers and turbo chargers increase air desity and volumemetric effiiency and therefore require higher octane fuel. Porting or other improvements to air flow increase only the volumemetric effiency, not air density, higher octane fuel is usually not needed for these mods. Milled heads or high compression domes Increase only compression ratio and do require higher octane fuel. Consult the manufacterer for correct octane.

So there is no point putting a 91 octane fuel into a stock 900 engine then? Best bet is just good clean 87 octane fuel since I mostly ride higher (2000m+) elevations.

I have always ran 91 premium. With the twin pipes I ran 4:1 91/100ll Avgas.

This was the SLP recomendation.

Owners manual says 87.
