Fuel Filter help

Hey Guys,

I'm going to swap out my fuel filter on my 06 Fusion. I have 2 questions that I haven't been able to find the precise answers for..

1. Is it mandatory to prime the fuel system (with 12 volt battery) after install of the new filter or will the system prime itself with pulling the recoil and trying to start the motor?

2. Is it mandatory to bleed the system after install of the new filter or will it bleed itself?

Thanks for the help in advance.

As long as your pullin on recoil your turning the mag which in turn is sendin current to the pump to prime, might take a few pulls, but personally have had no issues. And it will self bleed the air out of system

I have never had to actually prime the pump with 12v. I just pull 2 or 3 times, then depress the bleed valve to get rid of some air. It usually starts first pull after doing this.

Priming the fuel system after applying 12v power just makes it easier in most cases to start your sled after you have changed your fuel filter, or had your motor out. It took me a dozen pulls to get mine going after I had the motor out. Now, I just hooked up two connectors to the fuel line power leads, and plug it into my car charger, or 12v battery, and she fires up after one or two pulls. Or if you haven't started it for a while, its good to cycle the fuel through the pump with out even having to start it up. It's quite simple to do, just locate the wire cluster up near the oil tank reservoir, that's not being used and figure which one is which. Do a quick search on here, I know it's been discussed before. Good luck!!

1. no, iys just quicker to start the sled after new filter if you prime it and its good to circulate the fuel around in the tank..

once you pull the sled over a few times manually, the capacitor acts like a battery and saves a small amount of power and sends it to the pump to pump the fuel around until the sled starts ;)

2. you dont have to bleed the fuel rail...i never do, i just put some rags under the fuel lines cause when you pull the lines off you will leak some fuel on the ECU is there is nothing to catch it ;)
