FTX throttle block and pro taper bars

Alright, I have pro-taper bars that came stock on my 09' assault and I constantly seem to bump the kill switch while landing. I was looking at the fastrax throttle block that moves the kill switch to the front and I was wondering if anyone has tried it. I am 950 miles from the sled so I can not go out and measure the bars, does anyone off hand know if they are 7/8" diameter bars?

Yes they are. And just for some trivia knowledge even the 1 1/8" bars taper to 7/8 for the controls so it shouldn't be a worry. That throttle block sounds like it should be a good improvement for your riding style. Let us know what you think if you decide to go that route.
I was just having a discussion yesterday on how a person could clean up the bars a little. It is nice having controls at your fingertips, but mountain riding it seems you are always pushing something you aren't wanting to.

this might be kind of a silly question, but what about just removing the kill switch from the wiring loop. I have a tether, and a key switch, I don't need that kill switch on top of the throttle.

PM Guido-express on here. He has the FTX block on protaper bars. You can usually find him over in the 900 forum raising his post count(by giving helpful info)

One could try the old trick of wrapping a rubber band around the base of the kill switch (the area just beneath the button). This makes you keep downward pressure on the kill switch to kill the engine as the rubber band wll not allow the kill switch to "lock" down. Unless of course you just want a new cool throttle block and all. Sometimes simplicity just isn't enough. Thanks.

Right on that what i do.:beer;

Tried the rubber band thing before and it did not work so hot at really cold temps. Got kind of stiff and made it tough to shut off. Windshield grommet I never tried. Definately cheaper than $67.

HAHA...nice...:beer;

as far as the FTX throttle block..its the CHIT..great quality and great company to support..and very functional..i never had a simgle issue with the kill switch last year...even when i flipped over the bars ninja style..

here is a pic of mine with the pro taper bars on my 05 RMK 900..

Yes i can see the reason for moving the location/direction of the kill switch from the standard on top of the bars to pointing forward and eliminating accidentally hitting the switch but think of this. You are boondocking through the trees and a branch hits the front of the hood and careens off of the hood hitting your bars and engaging the FTX kill switch shutting the motor down (and what if you are pulling a hill ?). I would think that would be a problem also. I like the idea of disconnecting the killswich on top of the bar altogether and using your ignition key or tether to shut the motor down.

yes the forward mount would be a bad idea with the trees hitting it, you could get a rsi throttle and rsi kill switch, its like the reverse button...actually its exactly like what my kx 250 had too

i like the ftx throttle because it gives more bar room, i like atleast a inch between the throttle and the grip.

while the rubber band under the kill switch is good in concept it has one major flaw, In an emergercy it is hard to hold the button down while your sled is running away from you or the throttle sticks. I found this out the hard way, it cost me a $200 drawer for my tool box.

i plan on using handgaurds so the front mounted switch is not an issue..

plus i ran it all last year in every condition and was great!! But the tree branch is a valid debate!!

Good luck..hope the pics helped

I'm with Polar... a tether switch ....or something you can smack and it kills the engine and stays that way.

I have an extra FTX block... Nice design... but I don't need 2... new (un-used), black powder coated I'll let it go for $55 shipped USA (no Canada). PM me if interested.

I dodn't think it matters what you have when your sled shoots through the garage, its usually to fast to react

Wow thats a good one. Justin what about installing in your garage a runaway sled net like they use at the bottom of the snowmobile hillclimb competitions?
