Front Suspension Bushings

The front suspension on my 2006 apex is showing signs of wear after 2900 miles. The bushings that attach the Front suspension swing arms to the bulkhead are worn out. I have about 1/2" play on the bottom arm and about 1/4 play on the upper arm. Haven't torn it apart yet (just ordered the bushings), but it looks like if i don't get new bushings installed soon, i will be destroying my bulkhead. I am seeing trace amounts of aluminum dust on my swing arm, which is telling my the bolt that holds the arms to the bulkhead has warn through the bushing and is rubbing on the aluminum bulkhead.

I don't know if this is normal, because I tend to go over the woops pretty fast, but, to save yourself some serious money for a bulkhead replacement, you might want to jack up your sled and check your front suspension play.

I should have oilite front end bushings back in stock for the Apex & FX Nytro later next week.

Update: I removed the swing arms from the bulkhead and the lower swing arm bushings to the bulkhead were 90% worn on leftside, and completely gone on the right side. The upper swing arm bushings were worn about 50%. I don't think Yamaha greased these bushing from the factory, but when I installed the new ones, they are greased. From now on, I will be replacing the bushings once a season. Luckily, I did not damage the bulkhead from wear. Installing new OEM bushings was easy, so, this will become one of my yearly maintenance things.

I ordered OILite bushings from SRXSPEC, and will see how those work on next go around.

I have to throw this in. I love durability of the apex. This is the first maintenance thing I have had to do (short of oil change of course). Motor has been bullet proof!

My Bark busters are totally worn out also -- started life looser than I like and are totally gone after one season ( they are already the new and improved bushings ) do the after-marked bushings fit the Buster A arms also?
I fore sure need to come up with something better for next season.:confused:

Powdermuncher, do you have a calipers? Give me the ID measurement of the tube on the a-frame and I can tell you if they will work or not.

Yes a better material and machined to much tighter tolerances.

Thank you SRXspec for the Oilite bushings. Tonight, I installed the bushings onto the Spindles and was a perfect fit! These bushings should last the life of the machine. The metalic material used is far superior to the plastic OEM bushings. Thanks for the input and sending the bushing kit!

I am a happy customer!:beer;
