Front Ski shocks...Opinions

Curious what everybodies opinions are on how well (or not) the stock front Walker Evans shocks seem to be. I've been burried in sled work and haven't been able to get out yet but a few have told me that they don't like them.

So...are they good, or are they junk?

Stock WE's on what sled?? The "air" or "needle"?

My only experience with the WE's on the skis is the needle shocks. On my 08 Dragon, my 600 Rush last year, and on my new 800 Rush Pro R. For agressive trail riding they are the tits, with the widest range of practical adjustability I have found. The needle technology works!

Dave,

Good to talk with you... Run them on your sled and see what you think.

The standard Walker Evans Rebuildable Monotube-IFP shocks that you have from the PRO-RMK's are Very high quality with good high flow pistons and sturdy shaft and seal systems.

The front shocks on the 2011 pro-rmk are in serious need of re-valving. Quick and easy fix.

Agreed. The shocks felt wonderful! However, by the end of the 1st ride for this old fart I had the springs cranked up as tight as they would go. I would like to see either stiffer springs, or much stiffer valving in the shocks themselves. I am guessing that it is the valving rather than the springs. They do work very very well, just a bit on the soft side. Carls with be getting a box full of shocks from me.

I think the shocks are great. It's the spring thats too soggy. Have the sway bar out and springs crank all the way and still too soft. Looking for stiffer spring from Polaris parts department.

They are great for what they were intended for- boondocking, hill climing. I had mine revalved by Carl's and they work great. They rear seems too soft if you like to jump. I will be waiting for stiffer springs when they are available.

They work pretty darn well stock. If you jump alot or weigh in over 200 the springs and valving could use to be a little stiffer, but they are better than any other stock shocks I've run. I'm sure for some $$$ you can get something better but isn't that true of everything in life?

For my rear shocks I am having my local guy revalve them and as for the center shock spring, I am putting a 2011 IQ Race spring in there. It is a progressive spring, I think 130/270lb and the stock spring rate is 150lb. Might be an option for some of you guys. Plus they are cheap, like 30-40 bucks. BTW I weigh with gear about 240lbs and I could bottom out the center shock at will on hard pack.

Who you got doing your shocks here? Let me know how they work out. Mine could stand to be stiffer all around. I go about 210 out of the shower so we should be pretty close in weight. Be interested in how that spring works for you as well.

Anybody Know if Tom Whitestine is playing with these shocks any? He does magic with the walkers on the prox and iqr's. I should call him and see if he is doing these.

Ya Tom is the one that is doing my shocks and Logan's center skid shock. He is a miracle worker on walkers.

Been using tom for years now on my boys stuff and a few others. That man knows his stuff! Nothing but the highest praise for him. Good to see Tom doing the rmk stuff too. I will be giving him a call for sure. Let me know how that spring works out for you.

To me, it feels soft on hard hits, yet if I turn it up anymore than where I have it set, it is too stiff for boonbocking, or slower running. Thinking valving or a more progressive rate spring would be the ticket there. Getting picky here folks. Dont get me wrong. This is hands down the best sled I've ever had out of the box. I have just always run good suspensions that were setup to my liking. I do miss having clickers on the stock shocks. that would be my only beef. Got spoiled with the 03 escape. Alot of adjustment on a stocker.

I had ordered a set of Float 2's for the Nytro, then sold it. They would not let me out of paying 25% for the shocks as I tried to cancel so late, but allowed me to switch them to shocks for the Pro for no charge, so I put them on. I thought the stock WEs were pretty good, but they are not even comparable to the Float 2's on this sled. Soft initial for rolling the sled in the trees and soaking up chatters when you have to get on the trail, and stiffer for those big hits. Very happy with the Float 2's! Not that they were cheap, but if a person wants a solid improvement, these front shocks will give it.

I Like the new PRO shocks, of course I ouwld go aftermarket if I had the money, or a re-valve, when they are wore out and need a rebuild, but my only complaint is that they fade, but they only fade when I hit the trails hrad out to the mountains. So for 17 miles of bumpy trail, they work great, but the last three are spongy. So I sit and have drink of water and let them cool off before climbing.

I would like to add reservoirs to them for sure

What he said. Work wery well for boondocking and mtn riding but coming back on the whooped out trails aggressively is a problem because of fade. Also note they have NO stoppers so if you like to go big... you might want to reconsider unless you have spare A-arms laying around!

Have FUN!

I've been able to bottom out the rear and front shocks. I haven't played with them a lot yet but I'm considering re-valving the fronts before spending big coin on aftermarkets. I think they work well in the powder and boondocking. Really well - the whole sled does. I'm afraid to mess that up too much (I don't want too much rebound).

Overall, these are light years better than the Dragon WE's!
