Front ski install

Need a little help on the install for a 2013 WR450. I'm to the part where I am installing the spindle, but the instructions fail to mention anything about the speedo. Without it the forks appear too wide, but I have seen pics that clearly don't have the cable running down the fork, and the instructions say to remove the fork guards and the cable is attached to one of them.

So what are people doing with the speedo? It's obviously not going to work, but I'd rather not clip the wires. Seems to be a big hole in the instructions.

If its a cable, unscrew it from the display box and there should be a bolt on the speedo drum itself, undo it and the cable should pull right out.
If its wires there should be plug ends at both sides?

On my 2009 wr450f I just removed the speedo drive and pushed the axle further toward the spindle bushing ,use antiseaze(a light coating ) on the clamps to keep corrosion and gnawling on the fork chrome from occurring.

There is a connector plug behind the Headlight , disconnect it there and tape a plastic bag over the halve of the connector on the wiring harness to keep it dry for reconnect in the spring.

Thanks for the help guys, I got it on after I took the speedo out. Hopefully didn't bugger up the forks trying to put it on with the speedo in place.

This bike has become a dedicated snow bike now. The install is too much of pain in the butt to go back and forth every year. I have had three atv's with tracks and could do those swaps in about 45 min by myself including beer breaks. No way I can come close to that with the bike. Glad my old bike didn't sell now.
