Front ski help needed 06 YZ450

I have a 2006 YZ450F.

I am having problems with the front ski mounting. I am leaking oil pretty bad out of my forks and the seals were good before I put the kit on. The bushings I have are correct and the fork clamps are to. If you have a similar YZ I would love to see a picture of the front. For some reason my axle goes real far into the front fork clamp (rider right) when it is mounted. This could be right but I am not sure.

Any help is great.

Cody

Did you bend the forks bolting it up? My kx500 spacers didn't look right until it was all hand tight.

Edit: I would loosen everything at the bottom of the forks to see if the distance between your forks changes, and check that they are parallel.

My kx450f lost some fork oil after 90 rides, but I have to tie it down pretty tight for Washington roads.

right and left

you need to make sure your axle pulls the ski mount tight aginst the left fork, and the axle is floating in your right hand fork, no tension on the right fork leg, when that is a for sure, tighten the right hand axel pinch bolts.

The tube clamps have to now fit the right and left tubes with no spaces. If they don't have a nice tight fit, you need to modify them accordingly.

011 yz450 last year we had to build spacers so there was no fork tube deflection . Might call sandpoint and get some guidance from MH.

Keep in mind you cannot deflect the fork tubes or you will have issues: leaky seals, real poor fork action, premature seal and tube guide wear.

I'm kind of wondering about this too. I haven't drilled my spindle yet but noticed to fit the fork clamps between the forks and spindles I have to pull the forks out away from spindle. Seems that the spindle or clamps are too wide and won't allow the forks to float. Then I notice a gap between spacers on axle because forks are spread out. The box of parts say I have the correct fit kit. Hmmm.

Randy gave me a tip to set the forks up correctly and it seemed to work well.

Set your front shaft, spacers, spindle/ski, and clamps up loose without tightening anything down (track already installed obviously). Grab a buddy and compress the front forks all the way down for a full stroke a couple of times to set the spacing correctly for the fork tubes. Immediately tighten only the squeeze bolts on the shaft and that should keep your spacing. Then bolt up the clamps and get them tight. Lastly put the nut on the shaft and give it a snug but not overly tight twist so that you continue to keep the spacing on the fork tubes and not pinch them.

Ride it.

Wow thanks for all the help. So I have a picture below that shows the front end. U can see there is a small gap between the axel flange and the bushing. Nothing is tight in this picture. The right side is flush with the fork. I have confirmed there the right bushings but ts said I may have some different set up or need a mod. Is that necessary or am I just doing something wrong? I can bring the Axel further inside the fork but that does not seem right.

Thanks

yes on the yz the axel goes in farther on riders right side put the tire back on and look at it, measure the total width thru the center of the wheel and all spacers, then measure the t sled spindle and all spacers should be the same.
