Front Dump Can with SLP Twins

Another thread got me thinking about going this route and I didn't want to hijack it.

Currently have SLP twin pipes and am thinking I might need to go front dump to cure a horrible bog. I've tried most other steps to try to clear it up. Anyone know which front dump silencers work with SLP twins? I don't want the SLP transfer tube as most have said it doesn't seem to work. Thanks.

I had a slp twin setup with the front dump. I bought it from julio eurgen. It worked really good. Basically looked like 2 aaen silencers hooked together. Looked like he cut the flanges off the slp silencer and welded those on to the new silencers. Then the exit came together into one about 3 inch pipe with a downward hook on it for the exit. Dont think I have any pics, I will look and post if I do. I know you can buy silencers from aaen for really cheap.

Looks like Jaws sells a DIY kit for $199.00, probably using the same silencers Rixster mentions above. Might try to put one together myself, gonna have to find someone to weld for me though.

I bet if you had the silencers and took the sled down to a local muffler shop they would fix you up for next to nothing and most likely do a great job.

Yup, those guys usually like stuff like this. When I had a turbo toyotal supra the muffler shop guys helped me out on numerous occasions.

i did it with a set of stingers from SLP...you have to call because they dont offer them on the website. came out clean and its not nearly as loud as i thought it would be

Is it a front dump kit they offer? Or just the silencers? Any pics of your setup?

Front dump it...

i tried everything to get the bog to go away...nothing worked..NOTHING..although i didnt try to go front dump..spent alot of money trying to get an aftermarket pipe and can to work..but always had the bog when rolling it over in the fluffy on the can side..TRUST ME...front dump it..or sell it....

I also have had the dreaded right side powder bog on my carbed 05 King Cat since new. Somehow Artic Cat designed a mountain sled with that problem?? I tried everything to cure it - without any luck - until I installed the JAWS front dump kit for my SLP twins. I can tell you that for the most part it has cured the problem although I did make it cough in a recent 3 ft. dump. The other key to the fix is to lean it out as much as possible. Of course then you run the risk of meltdown. I have melted the mag side cylinder twice trying to lean it out as much as possible.

Will provide pictures of my Jaws front dump kit with my SLP twins when I return from my out of town trip. You need to have some excellent welding skills and that is why I let Cutlers weld and install. They did an A-plus job.

From my experience the front dump helps the right side bog but doesn't fix it all together. I am now back to a bottom dump, got my jetting nailed and that fixed the bog more then all the money I wasted on other things in years past.

yes....jetting will help quite a bit, so will the front dump

no its not a kit SLP offers, I had to call and special order the stingers. The sled is about 2 and a half hours away right now so i cant get pics. basically all it is, is 2 stingers with the inlet side having 1" of pipe sticking out....everything else has to be fabbed.

Got out today, wasn't even that deep, but was pretty warm. My jetting definitely needs some work. Plugs are pretty dark and EGT's were around 1080 at WOT during a climb, until it BOGGED :face-icon-small-sad. Going to jet down tonight and take it out Sunday for some 3/4 and WOT runs. Ordering the kit from Jaws on Monday.

Cwass55, how much did Cutler's charge to weld that kit up for you? Would appreciate pics if you get a chance. Thanks.

Cutlers charged me aprox. 2.5 hrs. at I believe 70 p/hr. Looks like factory welds. I will try to send photos of the setup tonight and the name of the technician at Cutlers.

As far as EGT's go I am at 1200-1300 degree range with plugs that have a chocolate tan color and good piston wash. The wash looks like I can go leaner but I hesitate as I have burnt the mag side twice already. It may be because of a small crank seal leak or crank out of phase. Might tear down the engine this summer to confirm. I do run the ATACC on her to help with jetting. I believe my main jets are 410/420 at the moment. Needle clip in the middle position.

Again I believe the front dump is the best mod for the powder bog along with jetting other then selling the sled and moving on to bigger and better.

can

I did the Jaws front dump can myself and will try to post some picks. No more problems with the bog but the can is so loud that I am only going to keep it this year and will build another one next year that is not so loud. I don't mind a little loud but the Jaws front dump will hurt you teeth it's so loud.

I would appreciate the pics if you get a chance.

Talked with a mechanic at a local shop in SLC today. I guess he has modded the SLP pipes and silencer to make it into a front dump setup for about 250.00 including parts/labor. I would need to buy the 06 KK snow deflector.

I just jetted down to 410/420 as well, but still seeing a bad bog. Going to change out the pilot jets, because I think it may be loading up down low and might be contributing to the bog throughout the rpm range. With my current jetting/setup I was running at 1000-1100 degrees through most of the rpm range. On super long pulls at WOT I started hitting 12's. Plugs look just a tad dark, so I might jet down to 400/410 to see what that gets me.

I also noticed I was going through a lot of oil, so I am currently dialing in my ratio. I noticed that the oil pump arm is sticking at 1/4 throttle on the return so I might add a spring that attaches to the bulkhead and pulls the arm back. It never ends...

Here are some pixs of my setup. This will help considerably. I believe the Jaws kit was around 200.00. If you order the kit ask them to include the SLP inlet ball joints that mate up with the stingers.

Nice, that looks very clean. Might go that route. How loud are those cans?

That is about what mine looked like. The only difference is mine came together after the silencers to a single 2 or 3 inch outlet.

I can't tell the difference as far as loudness goes, maybe a little less than the SLP can which itself is quite loud.

Rixster, I believe I bought your old front dump silencer from you. I still have it and I'm no longer running it due to the fact it's too loud for my tastes. Currently running the 06 factory front dump silencer, intake prefilters, air box shelf removed, exhaust side inner intake sealed, bone stock motor, and 330 mains at 7000ft. and up. I have to really work to get mine loaded up when leaning on the right side. The ONLY time it will load up is if the prefilters on the intakes are plugged. I'm currently building a speedo hole intake airbox for additional air flow. It's my opinion it's more of a good intake problem rather than exhaust plugging.
