From Alaska to Washington

Hello fellow riders,
I am not moving south but as a tour guide I am supposed to organize skiing/snowmobiling/dog sledding trip for about 30 people in February 2010. Can anybody recommend a good place where there is a combination of at least skiing and snowmobiling? Seems like dog sled tours are not very common in Washington, which is fine I guess...
I was looking at Mt. Rainier area, where there is lodging at the bottom of ski slopes (which seems not to be as usuall as I would have expected..), and now I am hoping to find a company that rents sleds or takes tourists out for a day.
You can either PM me or I will be checking this thread, thank your for your help!

I thought you called them snowmachines? lol.

Crystal Mountain is the only "resort style" ski area in Washington for tourists and there is good riding very close to the area. I'm sure you will get lots of help for sleds but stick to Crystal by MT Rainier, the rest of the areas don't really have the acomidations and (in bounds) skiing that Crystal does, Your on the right track. Good luck with the dog sleds....

snoqualmie pass for skiing and then theres crystal springs for sled rentals all on I 90

I would think that Wenatchee area would work for that great---Mission Ridge for skiing and there are sled rentals over by chelan and I would bet there are dog mushers over there as well. Probabley someone in Wenatchee rents sleds as well--and the snow is alot dryer.

check either Chelan tourism or Wenatchee toursim, they should be able to help you out.

Just look for a mushers group online in the washington area--I know there are several that do the Stampede area--but alot over in the wenatchee area.

More info please - -

What kind of experience are your clients seeking? Do they want lift-served skiing/boarding one day then trail or mtn snowmobiling the next? How many days?

Why does it have to be in Washington? Whizzler would be the first logical place to begin in this region if you ask me. Not that it can't be done here in the greater Seattle area.

Hey, yeah, we DO call them snowmachines but I had to make sure YOU guys down there understand what I am after and don't refer to me some snow making machines, hehehe....

Kordero, did you mean Whistler? The whole story is:
THere will be Olympic games in Vancouver and Whistler, and the group is going there for few days, then will spend 1 full day, 2 nights in WA. Most of them want to ski (they are from Europe), and they are probably fairly good skiers, some of them prefer dog sledding and I am trying to introduce them to snowmachining so they would come to Alaska next....
I would like to keep the whole group together but it's all in makings right now.

Thank you everybody for your input! I realize this is not the most proper place to do business but I don't know where else I can find out from people who are not trying to promote their stuff.
Thanks again,
Dasha

On the east side of the state is Bluewood in Dayton Wash, the blue mnts have some of the best sledding in the state and it's great for all types of skiers.

Whistler will be nutts.

With what you just described--I would take them to Mt Baker skiing and up in Bellingham you can find sled rentals that they will take right to the hill--or maybe sled Bearpaw right across the highway from the ski reort so you can keep them close together and not spend the whole day on the road. It will be ALOT closer to work it up in Bellingham area--Baker. The local sled shops up there I am sure rent sleds--and if not--will tell you who does up there.

Good luck!!

Crystal mtn--6 to 7 hours from Whistler. Baker 2 to 3 hours tops.

Palmer..............snow making machines.............hummm

Mountain Springs Lodge in Plain / Leavenworth has many types of Sled rentals with or without guides, Stevens Pass Ski Resort is 35 minuet drive, and Mission Ridge Ski Resort is 75minuets. There is a dog sled race over here in the middle of winter, don't know the details, but i do see some on the trails once in a while. Leavenworth is about 25 minutes away from the lodge.

Chelan has a few sled rentals, don't know the details, but look to have 6-10 located at the snowpark. There is nearby accommodations and a casino! There was a post on here a few months ago about a hotel manager seeking snowmobile guests in Chlean/Manson.

That's funny how I keep going back and forth trying to decide....
Baker was the first option but then we found out (by making phone calls and internet search) that there is no "ski village" to speak of, and no lodging within walking distance from skiing. THey will not have their own cars...

Chelan & Wenatchee seem like the best combination but isn't it too far to drive? Like over 3 hrs one way?

Thanks guys (& girls) for your help, I will let you know what we decided when it's all done.

Hello there,
thanks for all the suggestions! The group decided to spend their time in Mt. Rainier area (don't ask me why, I don't really know....), so that's what they will get...

Good riding season, lots of snow and no carnage to you all!
