Fresh Rebuild Startup questions.

Finally got my Fusion all back together and fired it up today. The motor was completely rebuilt by indy dan with one of his TM1's and new 06 pistons. I filled the take with fresh fuel mixed at a 50:1 and put a wire on the oil pump to hold it open. My first question is: Is it normal to smoke so much that it looks like the garage is on fire when it is first started??? My second question is that while I was running it and trying to get it to run smooth it heated up faster than I expected. Noticed the heat exchangers got hot from my leg rubbing up against it.Temp was at 160 but was not running for very long. Do you think that this hurt anything? Thanks in advance for your help guys.

Ya, expect it to smoke like an old freight train till all the assembly oil gets burned out...

160 is nothing... no worries. Just remember about proper warm up when taking it out for a ride and watch temps closely so that nothing gets overheated (180+). No WOT for extended periods for the first ride or 2 and after that ride it like you stole it and you will be really happy!

Make sure the coolant system is sufficiently burped also; elevate the front of the sled and pop the bleed screw on the thermostat housing loose so it can get the air out quicker... tighten it down and refill coolant as needed until stops dropping, then fill it up at or above the line and monitor the first few rides for any more minor drops in level.

Under normal circumstances, heat damage isn't a factor till you get the coolant above 215*F at which point the engine will go into limp mode above 5K rpm or so.

Thanks, I'm used to the temps being in the 130's during the winter so when I saw 160 just made me worry a little bit.

A fresh rebuild means everything's tighter... hopefully!!! Which means a little more friction... which means higher temps until everything seats in!
