Frank'nstyn 9 overhaul....THANKS

Just wanted to say a quick thanks to all who post such useful info on the 9. I read many of the stickys and used a ton of info off this forum.

Long story short: I'm a new '06 9 owner and didn't check out the sled as good as I should have. Shouldn't have let the low mileage and outward appearance fool me! Upon closer inspection at home found badly scratched up pistons (water in fuel or snow ingestion?) and low (115) compression so I tore it down. FIRST SLED OVERHAUL!! Had a couple "What did I get into???!!" moments and turned to the forum for help. Also found a cracked jug. Got all the parts gathered and had a local shop assemble the top end.

Engine install went went fairly smooth with all your help from engine mts to throttle cables to bleeding fuel, A/F and oil lines and much more. Started 3rd pull...have taken it on a couple short break in runs.....seems to be perfect so far but haven't gone WOT yet. Hopefully this one last longer than the original.

Installed the full Frogzskin line of vents last night.

Thanks for the help with my Frank'nstyn 9!

Sonds like you got it right ! 3rd pull start is normal on a cold 9 and an excellent sign for a rebuild! keep reading and you can make that 9 scream and last for years of trouble free riding . Doing it right the first time is the key on these sleds. Good luck !

Glad to hear you got it together and running, now get it broken in and start hunting arctic cats!

Welcome to the 900 club, good job on the build 3 pulls and go after warm up 120. Make sure you warm her up before each ride. Then ride her hard :face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap

Like everyone stated..congrats..welcome to the club, and enjoy your work..

everyone above me is to thank...they have all been a HUGE part of this forum..

So far.....so good

Have had frank'nstYn out on 4 runs so far (100 miles) and he's ran perfect:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap. I think we might be ready for some backcountry:face-icon-small-coo. That MBRP can sounds great when the ev's open up. I deleted the front radiator (made my own block off plate) and put on the frogzskin side and shockwell vents and big air intake vents. He runs much cooler than before. I'm sure some of that heat was from the bad pistons but it runs at 130 now compared to 165-185 before.

DD....I'll need a little practice riding before I hunt a CAT or anything very hard. However, I do seem to be surrounded by cats....they are probably overpopulated and need thinned out. Just starting to get comfortable on the sled now. Just a little difference coming off a '95 121" track..... and not riding at all for about 4 years. Looking forward to getting into some DEEP snow soon.

What should max tack be?

Stock pipe? Mine likes 7500 - 7600, and go by actual tach readings... NOT by the max rpm in the memory, this can be misleading.

I am a first year 900 owner too---- Welcome

I have be fairly lucky, some suspension issues, springs. Temp sensor.

Don't put a SLP air box on it.

Got my FNI ordered Paul sez only 4 left after my purchase.

Great sled 166 , lots of torque.
