fouling plugs

k guys checked through the stickies and couldnt find anything like my problem. 06 900 is going through a minimum 2 plugs per ride. sled runs awsome for the first 4-5 hours of the ride than kinda start noticing less performance, than cutting out and fouling plug. put new plugs in, and she runs like a raped ape again. everything works as should, reverse, idle, just fouling plugs. only started doing this in the last few weeks or so, used to be able to go most of a season on same pair of plugs. just put on new motion pro cable on sled that and didnt solve the problem.
also i do put extra oil in the tank, and am very religous on warming up so she does idle alot. even when already warm out riding if we stop for awhile to eat or something i let it warm up for a good bit before moving again.
running BPR9s for plugs, tryied champions and they did the same thing.

thanks for the input! just put new cable from motion pro on that is just like the one FBF had for sale, and pump seems to be working fine. sled can sit for weeks without oil level dropping in tank, so shouldnt be the center seals. could be putting to much oil in the tank i guess. but dont think i have ever put more than 100:1 per tank.
any chance dirty exhaust valves could possibly cause this? havent cleaned them in awhile and just had that thought today at work.

not sure, never fouled a plug in 5 years except when I had center crank seals go out and then it did exactly as you described. I add 1/2 oz per gallon of oil to the fuel.

ya ive never had a problem fouling plugs until this year. thats why i was thinkin about the valves. usually clean them at the beginning of the year before i ride but i didnt do that this year. i dont know... doesnt make sense that it would run great though if the valves were dirty? i guess ill really start measuring out my oil that i put in the tank and go from there. thanks man

Check your antifreeze to see if its going down could be a head 0 rings letting antifreeze in and fouling plugs . just another thing to check.

thanks for the idea. went and double checked and antifreeze has not moved at all. i try and check it before every ride as well and have never had it be low. but i will keep an eye on it just to be sure thats not it. thanks

thought i would give you guys an update on what ive found. i think its just a side effect of running oil in the fuel tank. put over 100 miles on without putting extra oil in the tank, and never fouled a plug, not even a hesitation. plugs looked good. next 2 rides i started putting 100:1 ratio of oil back in tank and have fouled 4 plugs already! guess plugs are still cheaper than a new motor though.

Just out of curiosity, what are you running for oil? Would that be the cause of fouling? Some oils mix with gas better than others.... I've had the best luck with TCW3 grade oil. No fouling for me. Plus I run the iridium plugs from NGK..... Spendy but reliable!!

theres a whole section called fouled plug.maybe they will know something over there!!!ha

im running phillips 66 Injex oil. running it in the wifes 600 pro without issues, and my buddies are running it in all there sleds, without issue. thought about trying the iridium plugs, still might give it a shot. i can almost buy a case of regular plugs for the price of a pair of iridium:face-icon-small-sho

Do not know if this will help but had the same kind off issue on my 900. Started fouling plugs on almost every ride. would change the plugs and ran great for 50 miles and would have to change them again. Last summer torn the engine down for routine maintanence to repalce 05 pistons with 06 piston and the piston was cracked. Once I replaced the pistons have not had the fouling problem since.

i used to foul plugs all the time when riding on tight trails at a constant speed...bought NGK iridium "EIX" plugs and about 1000 miles ago and im still on the first set. have not fouled 1 plug. They have come down in price, about $8 each on amazon

What are you running your oil injection ratio at? Should be about 35:1 or so. Much more oil than that (30:1) and you could be having problems with the oil you are also adding in the tank... any less than 40:1 and your risking inadequate lubrication.

I know LOTS of people add oil in the fuel, I guess I just don't see the need if you've got the injection system calibrated properly.

dont know for sure what im running for injection ratio, other than just oil pump set at stock setting. guess ill measure it out on my next ride.
