Fort Collins

I'm thinking about making a move and was wondering if there was any riding to be done near Fort Collins? How far would I have to travel, how long is the season, etc? Thanks.

Snowies are about 90 minutes
Cameron pass is about 60 minutes.
Rabbit Ears is about 120 minutes or so.

Season is from Dec to April May....

If you want to travel a little farther and make a long weekend of it,
Togwotee is 5.5 hours
grand mesa is 5 hours

There are prob. 8 - 10 riding areas that you can get to in under 4 hours.

Usually shoot for a T-day ride to start the season and look for Memorial day as the minimum for the season.

Would this be powder riding season, or just being able to ride? If powder season does go until Memorial day, how long can you ride before there isn't enough snow even if it hard packed snow?

You guys must drive fast

The snowies are 90-120mins depending on the roads. Laramie is 1hr from Fort Collins regardless of what way you go, then you have to drive up to the parking areas.(usually around 90, sometimes those roads get bad)
Rabbit Ears is 2 1/2-3 hrs over Cameron Pass depending on roads. It takes a longer than you would expect, but there is a lot of canyon driving.
I have never ridden Cameron so i can't comment on that.

Like Hoopers said season is usually Dec-Apr, May. Sometimes we get lucky and can start in November, but not in thte last two years.

Wow I drive fast as hell and cannot get to any of those places that fast.

I would love to see someone get from Fort to Rabbit Ears in 90 minutes

Check out the CSA website, lots of information on areas. Website has gotten much better in the last few months, as they've put a lot of effort into it. Check out the clubs or grooming maps, they will give you an idea of how far away the areas are from FTC. For the most part, in CO/WY we just use the trail systems to access the backcountry.
