Any of you who have an early style Expedition (99 for example) What kind of mileage are you getting city/highway? How reliable are they?

Looking to do some homework on them and searching for first hand experiences from you guys, anything you can tell me...

(couldn't find anything on the search function)

Thanks:beer;

I'm looking at a '99 Eddie Bauer 5.4L 4x4 W/ 93K miles in good condition for just under $8K... thoughts?

Sit tight.
These larger SUV's are dropping by the day.

I bet that would be a $5000 rig if it went through the ring today, less tomorrow, and so on.

Had a 2000 Exped. Was the wife's rig. Replaced tranny at 80,000 got rid of it at 120,000 no other major problem other than that. Traded it in an got a car. Now Love the gas milege hate the room or lack there of.

We had a 97. So glad we got rid of it. Bought it used with 30,000 and it had a new Torque converter already (I guess they had a run of bad ones). We had somewhere around 125000 miles on it. Replaced most of the front end parts at least once. Blew a sparkplug out two hundred miles from home. Last straw was the leaking heater core. On this model you had to drop the whole dash.

It was nice when newer, but became a real pile of crap at 100,000.

Saw this and knew someone was guna say somethin about blowin a spark plug out, My reccomendation is first thing change the spark plugs and coil boots and look for a coolant leak directly above the #7 cylinder(pass. side back of engine). Dealt with tons of these. Known for lower ball joints and sway bar links, but easy to replace. Not a big fan of Fords but not a bad rig. Ask if the transmission was ever serviced, if these don't get a flush every 30K they tend to eat transmissions, However if it has not been done don't attempt to flush it now at 93K miles if you do it will definately go. Just drop the trans pan and put a new filter in it and top er' off nothin else comin to mind right now.......

My mom drives a 98 expy 5.4 4x4 with mid 100,000s miles. She Loves it!

Hey guess what..it blew a spark plug! that was the only prob we have had with it since we got it 7 years ago. She gets about 10-14 mpgs.. more like 10-12 when pulling the two-place. Cant really feel the trailer behind you when your towing it with the sleds on/off it. great vehicle.

me and dad want her to get something more stylish like a Cheyenne S/Turbo or a GL 350/450 but she says "Nope, i like my truck" she doesnt even like the new expys lol.

My wife drives a '98 Expedition 5.4L. It's been a good vehicle, lots of room, comfortable for trips. Pulled my 2 place just fine and got about 11 mpg. Gets 12-14 unloaded.

I'd wait for a better deal than the one you're looking at unless it's a real cream puff. $8000 seems like a lot for a 9 year old SUV considering today's gas prices.

We had a 2000 Expy with the 5.4, all wheel drive. I am a GM person, but I really liked that rig. It drove real nice, kind of low on power though. It got about 12 to 13 mpg city driving. When we drove from Anchorage to Seattle we averaged 18. Never had any mechanical problems other than warped rotors in front. It had 120K on it when we traded it in.

Wife had an '01 ...... 10-14 mpg. Did air intake , throttle body spacer , and a Flowmaster exhaust. Really woke it up power wise. 10,000 miles later , tranny went out - just outside of warranty. Traded it in on a 2004 that rode a lot better.

Thanks guys!

Good info guys :beer; I think if I go that way that I'll look for a better deal, but I've been thinking it over, and I'm still not sold on moving away from my truck, a bed is a real nice feature even if I don't use it as much as I used to.

Perhaps I'll wait a while longer before retiring the old '94 from daily service... never gonna sell it either way, overall good rig:D I'll just keep window shopping for the time being:face-icon-small-win:beer;

There are a lot of them for sale over on this side of the hills. It shouldn't be hard to find a good deal on one. Are you looking for Eddie Bauer or XLT?

Yeah wait a little while my bro just picked up an 07 w/32,000 mi for 19K straight out. for a $45K rig when new another month or 2 of $4 plus per gal and they'll be a dime a dozen.
