For those who have done the fan mod...

I've got an 09 700 that's on its 3rd VR! To protect this one, I have moved the capacitor off of the top of the VR, and am in the process of adding the fan and more chassis grounds. The question: I've got all the parts for the fan, except for the 2W, 5ohm resistor to knock the voltage down to 12v. I can't find one of these anywhere: not radioshack, not napa, and online the closest one is hong kong! Where do I get one of these? Are there any alternatives? On the chassis ground wire, I have NAPA (belden) 10 ga primary wire. Will this do, or does it have to be marine grade, tinned 10ga? I don't have a marine store here in Wyo.

No, the additional ground wire doesn't have to be marine grade. I use the Napa braided ground straps that you see on many auto's that are installed at the factory. As for the fan, I'm not quite sure why you need the resistor. There is quite a bit of info on the fan install in the "Protecting the ECU" thread. If you are worried about the 13-14 volts of engine running DC charging voltage burning up your fan, don't be.
