For Those That Haven't Seen The Crater at Mt.Baker

I diched the team and got right up there, but I've climbed for 30 years and tried baker in crampons but the weather turned to **** which it does if your not paying attention, on a sled it's quick, but if you have not spent most of your life in the snow go with someone who knows the safe way which is around and up to the right by big house. I spent a nice afternoon some years back and the guys I met up there lost their brother going down the glacier and he took a short cut and died. We met the sheriff and rescue crowd, tied my sled along with two others for an anchor, rescue went down and got to the sled but the poor rider dropped further. I was standing next to a brother calling his dad for the keys to the truck which the poor rider had on him, saddest day of my sled career execpt all the climbers I've drank beer with that are now dead, get the gear, pay attention and have fun. I suspect there are some in here that remember that day:((

Got pics of the summit but put my self at risk from the non riders:))) Glacier cruisers do to but all of our pictures got hacked by the Russians, the top is big and flat:))) old timers that is we all now follow the rules and lines in the snow:)

Been riding up there for 20 years but never been up to the summit. Crossing the glacier always sketched me out I stay down where there's rocks and trees. I remember back when that poor guy went in that crevasse. If I remember right it was 2000 when the first 151 700 summit came out that went in. Maybe one day I'll hook up with one of the club guys and go up but want to be sure. I know that glacier opens up new wholes all the time.

I was also there that day. Very sad indeed! I will not go any higher than big house again, not worth it!!

The crater is safe, it's basically a permenet snow field with small cracks, but if you have never climbed a glacier or volcano before it's not worth it, I went from foot power to horse power and it was mind boggling after so many years climbing. Rainer 3 times, Stuart 5 times, saint helens 4 times before blow and once after erupting but we nailed it on sleds and had beers at the he top with some very tight parking:)) remember the mountains don't care and that is what I live by, ride on and be safe!!
