Looking at picking up an 03 Mtn Cat 600 EFI for my wife and daughter...
The owner says the sled won't stay running..and thinks it's the fuel rail. He can put fuel in the cylinder and get it to run for a minute, but that's it.
I haven't owned an EFI sled before, so I am wondering what some of the possibilities are for the problem? I was thinking fuel pump?
Looking for some other ideas..and possible costs to repair? If it is the fuel rail, how much, and how hard to replace? Same ? with fuel pump.
What else should I look for?
Thanks,
Steven

Fuel pump. Some times after sitting they fail to start. Just unhook it and put 12 volts to it. you will hear it run (with the cap off the tank). If it doesn't run, reverse polarity, some times they just get stuck. when you do that it will make the pump run backwards for a second, then it should run.

Thanks Rixster! I have a good line, and hopefully a good price, so I am hoping that it will end up being something simple.
If I get it tomorrow, and have a chance to work on it, I will keep you posted.

Just throwing it out there

Is there air in the fuel line? We drained the tank in the spring on my 900 and it took me about 50 pulls to get the bloody thing started this season.

Same deal, put fuel in the cylinder and it would run for a second or two.

We could see the air in the fuel lines slowly working its way through. Eventually she started.

This is on a carb sled though, not sure if the fuel supply setup is different.

if its been sitting the smartvalves in the tank are probably dried out or there is water in the fuel, drain the tank pull the valves and run a can of seafoam thru it

Thanks for all the input guys....the thing turned out to be a P.O.S. ! Told him to keep it.
This gives me a little more confidence in looking for another one.
Thanks,
Steve
