Footwell vents necessary?

How many of you guys are using these footwell vents and find it necessary to use them? Seems like snow could get in there easily, who makes the best set? Any info appreciated, Thanks!

personally i would highly reccomend them. they are cheap, easy to install, and are good insurance against snow getting in. also i think they make the footwell area look better.

cant say enough about mike taylors product. fits great, and top notch customer service.

I rode a lot of deep snow days last winter and never had snow get up in the clutches but I'm in the Pacific NW Cascade concrete. Did have a problem with the running boards filling with snow so I bought madsigntists inserts and his footwell block offs (best deal going!) so I have them now regardless. The running board inserts were a much more worthwhile add on as it solved the snow build problem altogether with NO cutting and no expensive Air Frames either! http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=311486

Now those top side panel vents ARE an issue! I think anyone running in deep, light pow is going to have a helluva lot more snow in the clutch area from that than those footwells from my experience!

Have FUN!

Do you have a picture?
Are you talking about aftermarket vents that people install in their side panels?
Sitting on my bench, I have a vent that would go on that little panel right outside my primary. I'm waiting to decide if I want to put that on or not.

The vent I am waiting to put on the bottom middle vent in this top picture example (clutch side, obviously)

Yes on the clutch side for shure it's easy to get snow in there and the belt will slip. The exhaust side would be good if you have the belt drive. If you have a chain case it's not a big deal then.

Thanks G MAN-Here's pic of the MadFab EZ Footy Walls.

They are not really screens and have no mesh on them(nothing sticks to the HDPE). They are more like low-temp plastic shields.
CNC'd .125" HDPE=bombproof durability. ABS is nowhere near as durable or hydrophobic.
What they do is block of the all of the lower gaps and slots so that NO snow can be kicked into the bays and onto the rotor/drive belt or onto the clutches either, and they leave the slots above the footy bar open to still vent and breathe.
Blocking off the lower holes and slots also stops the clutch/drivebelt/rotor heat from melting and freezing a brick of ice into place in all the slots.
Keeps the footy area nice and clean, but still allows the upper slots to vent out the heat.

Simple, durable and ridiculously EZ to install. 4 black rivets=done.
PM me for price. Free shipping too.

I also make these for the Pro RMK foot well if interested powder coated in black or white. Simple install 4 rivets and your done made from metal so they will last and perforated to breath but not let snow in. PM for price

I have Mike Taylor's vents and they work. Never seem to get big ice chunks up there anymore and clutches never slip. Mike Taylor's vents got my vote.

X3

They work wonderful for the dry powder days. But they also work equally well for keeping water out for those that routinely have to skip water. With the ope design of the running boards, I would often get my belt and clutches wet when skipping. That is NOT a good thing. That ended when I installed Mikes vents.
