Footwell/Boot Clearance

I've always worn my trusty pair of Rockys for sledding and they have served me well for the past 10 years, but this year I decided to try something with a bit more support and picked up a pair of Dual Boa HMKs. They arrived a couple of days ago so I figured I'd give them a dry run while practicing sidehilling in the garage... The clearance between the boards and the toe holds is pretty damn tight, and I'm a little concerned about getting my foot stuck while actually riding or trying to bail off. I don't ride that often with my feet all the way forward, but am worried about them possibly sliding up into that position and not being able to get free.
Has anyone modified the kick plates to raise them up, I think an extra 1/2" would be enough, or is the answer to go to a different style running board?

Is that a size 18?[emoji848][emoji3526]
Kidding aside, move the kickplate up if u really want ur foot up in there. Ur ankles will last longer if u keep ur foot back a bit. That way when u fall off, ur foot comes with u and doesn't break or dislocate at the ankle.

I had a set of FXR boots and I had that same problem. After my foot got caught a couple of times, I removed the plates altogether. (figured that it was better then broken ankle)
Surprisingly very little to no snow would build up in the belly pan. On the right side, I siliconed the speed sensor wiring harness up out of the way so that I wouldn't kick it with my boot.
Ran it that way for a couple of seasons without issues. Eventually I ended putting the plates back when I replaced the FXR boots with a pair of Klim boots. The Klim boots have a much lower profile, so they don't seem to hang up in the foot well like the FXR boots did.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll remove them and give it a shot, I was worried about snow buildup too.

I modified mine for more room. IIRC I used the lower drilled holes in your pic. The mag side I cut off the excess as there wasn't clearance of the oil reservoir and the PTO side just folded out of the way. I also did some cutting and bending on the brake cover to create more room around it.

You inspired me to give it a shot. I basically cut them off at the top of the bend, lined up the outside hole, redrilled the inboard hole, and bolted them back up. Plenty of room now. ?
