Considering a warm up trip to the big horns over christmas/new years

Looking for a place to stay that you can rider right out of. Coming from Minnesota, and dont want to have to trailer every day. Want to walk out of the room, jump on the sled and go.

having said that, I know nothing about the Bighorns other than I can see it on a map.

Where to stay, where to ride, etc.........

Advice please?

Jeff, You might want to specify either north or south. I am pretty sure your are looking at the north side from Sheridan. Bear Lodge is a popular place from what I have heard from others peeps that have sledded there.
Cannot comment on riding there. I have heard that with good snow there is many big open play areas to climb, lot of cornices to drop.

Nicest place is elk view inn and bear lodge is 2nd best IMO. I like the area south of the old showshoe lodge and also around the Hicountry lodge is nice. The Hi country lodge is in a great location just cant drive your pickup up there sled in only. I would check I dont think they have crap for snow yet. When the snow is good the horns are awesome!

As far as I know everything is full on the hill. I called a couple weeks ago and they said everything was full. Maybe some cancellations now. The snow is the poorest I've ever seen it this time of year. I booked a room at Ranchester but if nothing shows up a radar soon we will go somewhere else. We've lost a lot of trailing arms and A arms to the rocks up there. Bear owns all three lodges at Burgess.

from what ive read and heard you should try elsewhere. my buddy was up there yesterday and hes not going back till it snows. his buddy got a boulder pretty good. a storm could happen any time but theres nothing in the forcast. bring an extra sled and ill show you around though haha

You can ride out of any lodge. Bear, arrowhead & elk view on the North side. Deer haven on the south side. I recommend the North, especially the first trip. It is an hour drive, at least, from sheridan to the burgess junction area (where the lodges are).
The bighorns are more open than the snowies or cook, If they catch a big snow it can be great. It seems to me they are usually shorter on snow than the other places.

Like other people said, there might not be much snow now but watch the forecast & be ready to roll.
They might say they are full, but if the snow is sparse, there will be cancellations

Try Togwotee Mountain Lodge

I just got back from there plenty of snow and ride from the front door of the your cabin or front door of lodge. Great people there good services such as gas and stuff.
It's 32 west of Dubios Wy.

Better hope we get some snow. It's rideable but still dangerous. Some spots have bumper deep snow but then the tops of the hills are close to bare. The snowies just got a good storm may be worth going there. I don't know if I will ride until we get a storm.

Jeff, drive a couple more hours and ride some good snow. Hit West or Cooke. We are headed out the 26th if you want to catch a ride.
