Foam Removal Question

Just picked up my 2012 Pro today. My last new sled was in 2005. I always removed all the foam in the engine compartment. Is that still the "rule of thumb" with these new sleds? Thanks for the input.

There are a ton of threads on the foam removal. People take them out because they just soak up water and are really only there for sound insulation for sound standards. Just make sure you get some heat insulation tape so you don't melt plastic. The stock can will rub up against the plastic.

hmm???? foam???

The foam dilema......

Apparantly there are now,,,, let's call them Warranty Adjusters......

So, the company that holds warranty, or let's say insurance for Polaris wants to look after their own arse...

Your dealer files a warranty claim with Polaris, this goes to the "warranty company" and they want to see if everyone is being totally honest, so who do they send to the dealer to check things out????

Like I said, let's call em Warranty Adjusters...

I know the foam doesn't do a damn thing.... but if it's gone and some Jo Schmo Warranty Adjuster decides it does and it's gone,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, damn...

Just somethin to think about..

As for my two Pro's,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the foam is,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, OUT...

I did the search - here is what I get on every thread that I click:

Is it my server or?

Is the inside of the panel on the can side the only place that needs heat insulation tape? Thanks

in the past i have used aluminum foil tape that we sell at my work. good to 250 deg. has worked fine so far.

Comes off easily on a new sled just pulling bu hand. Any residual glue left just put 'camp fuel' on a rag wipe over the glue back and forth, softens it up more. Then just roll off with your fingers.

Thanks for the info fellas. Did the foam removal, used the Colemans Fuel, worked well. Put heat deflection tape (rated to 1500*) on the panel where the can is. Do I need to put the tape on the hood above the can? That is the only other place where it looks like the can is close to the plastic.
Thanks

Talked to Derek at Tri City today, he said only do the heat tape on the can side panel and all else should be good as is with the foam removed. Thanks for the replies and the link to the other thread. BTW, the duct tape method works very well!

Remove foam

Yes it keeps the under hood heat inn and acts like a insulation on a home. Get it out its main purpose is sound barrier lowering to the minimal decibel.
