foam between clutch cover and electronics

Has anyone ever removed the foam from between the clutch cover and the electronics? It seems like it would help them vent better. There are holes that the foam is blocking that alot more air could get through. Is there any downsides to this?

Just did this a couple of hours ago to help with air flow across the voltage regulator.

I also relocated the capacitor from on top of the voltage regulator so as to help with cooling it.

x2 Did the same thing and added 2 rubber blocks to dampen vibration. Rode one season with this mod and no issues.

I can't tell you why it's there. I suspect its to help with vibration dampening.

That said, don't you think that if it would help cool then Polaris would have left it out? They wouldn't have put it there unless it served a purpose more important that the possibility of cooling.

In fact, looking at it a little closer, maybe it insulates the electronics from clutch/belt heat that gets transfered in to the clutch cover.

Don't know.

I would agree it does more insulating from the heat....the air will be hot coming through there. Like pulling the insulation out of your home to keep it warmer/cooler....??? Who knows :face-icon-small-con

I have the front end off my wife's 08 700 while I'm waiting for 09 front bumper/plastics.

I looked at it last night with the hood closed and THE FOAM I REMOVED was just above the electrics cover and vent for the voltage regulator on the underside of the hood. There was actually slight black marks on the foam above the V.R. vent.

I suspect the foam is ther for sound deadening and with an SLP shock tower vent and front vents removing it will allow more cool air to flow through the electronics IMHO.

If you are referring to the foam under the electrics, I left that in.

Sorry for the confusion.
