Flying Carpet(radiator blockers), installed (Pics)

Thanks to y'all, who turned me on to the Flying Carpet for the material for the radiator cover. I got my carpet a few days ago as I had done a search for it on Black Friday or the day after, and Fleet and Farm was having a sale on the Flying Carpet for $2.39 and the shipping was FREE! I have never gotten anything shipped for $2.39 so I was thrilled when the deal was for real.

I measured 4"x13" and using some scissors, cut out my two pieces. The stuff cuts easy and as it was warm in the basement, very flexible. It slotted right into place in between the radiator louvers and the radiator and I tucked the excess at the top back down between the radiator and the carpet.

Nice one. I find it nice to have a couple inches extra on top to yank them out. Sometimes I grab themwhile im riding up the trail or just pull them half way out (while riding). Watch that temp guage all the time.

I’d also consider throwing on some unabiker rad guards. Speaking from experience I already dropped the bike in the driveway once trying to load it and not being used to the awkwardness. They don’t like to stand up on their own very much and the price for unabiker insurance has already paid me!

As I have the entire rest of the Flying Carpet left, I'm thinking of cutting out a couple more block-off panels but this time, I will add a number of notches that extend out to the side of the panel where the top of the notch will be flat and the bottom will be angled so when sliding the panel down, the angles could slide past the bolt/louver mounts but the panel can't blow back up as it would be stopped by the flat notch/extension.

I may cut out more than just 2 notches, maybe every 2 or three inches so I can fine tune the airflow depending on conditions. I'll start with big notches and trim down depending on how it is all fitting/sliding.

My starboard side radiator does have a fan already installed from the factory as well as a temp guage in the Trail Tech Voyager.

I may work on it tonight and post up some pics with my finished product(s).

I realized that if I want to fine tune the amount of air that gets to the radiator(s) with the flying carpet pieces I have tucked in between the radiator and the louvers, all I need to do is lift them up then tuck them back down.

I have not made covers for the backs of the radiators as the plumbing is in the way back there. I will, though, see what I can fit/stuff behind them as I have seen many who have covered up the backside of their radiators to keep the engine temperature up.
