Flying Camera

So I have been looking into the drone market and actually bought the DJI last year but never got the chance to really use it. Conditions need to be ideal in order to use it. Plus it needs a pretty big case to carry the thing. I can't take it with me when I need to wear my avy bag so it kinda becomes impossible to take with me. I have found something else that will be way sweet. Has a 4k camera, 3 axis gimbal, auto follow modes, shoots in 1080 and 120 fps and can even do 720 at 240 fps which will be freaking sweet for slowmo stuff. Here is what I have found. http://vantagerobotics.com

Has anybody else found anything better than this one?
Only problem is it won't ship until spring of 2016. They have told me it should be ready to ship by March 2016.
You do need to pre-order it to get the $400 discount but for the money it think it may be the best one out there.

Been looking at the phantom 3 pro......

This is interesting.....

What is the cost of the unit?

Right now its $895 plus 20 shipping. I guess soon the price will rise to $1,295.

I have looked at the Phantom 3 as well but the follow you feature looks like it follows the controller so I don't know how well that will work while riding the sled.

Make sure you ask about battery life in the temps you ride in. That has been a BIG issues for everyone of these units I have seen listed. Eric

Will be flying the Phantom 3 in your same riding spots. Your welcome to join us.

I will have to take you up on that sometime to see how well it works. I have the Phantom II Vision plus. I only used it 1 time last year though. How do you carry it with you? If I take mine I can't wear my regular avy pack with all my gear and I am afraid that if I strap it to my sled it will get bounced around and break the gimbal.

Ya I will purchase a few extra batteries for sure. I only used my Phantom last year one time but it seemed to be normal flight time. But it was a warmer day too.

I wonder what the Go-Pro drone will be like when it is introduced next year?

Its gonna be a learning curve for our crew. Who really wants to stop riding and fly the camera when its sweet riding? battery life? transport?

That is my problem. Nobody wants to stop to video. Battery lasts 15 minutes or so. I have 4 batteries. The crappy part is the transportation of it. I never took it much because I wanted to have my avy backpack and I could not fit it in that pack. So it is very limited on when I could actually take it with me. Here is a link to the back pack i bought though so i could take it with me.

Vey cool stuff. I pre ordered the Lily, hoping it will show up in February. No idea what the battery life is going to be and I don't believe it's removable right now. But it is fairly compact and very easy to fly. Just throw it and it starts recording. That's the promise anyways. :face-icon-small-dis

ships in spring 2016? good luck getting that before NEXT snowmobile season if at all. My guess is the lily doesnt ship till next summer either. Pretty cool ideas and products but I feel like the drone industry over promises and way under delivers. Add to that the new FAA law for all drones to be registered...

We will be using the Phantom 3 this year. The shots and the angles you can get are unique and visually appealing. We need this to try and deliver a better product. But they are cumbersome to pack around and very time consuming to set up and not very stable in winds above 10 mph. We shot with phantom II last year. Basically set up a pelican box on one of the sleds to pack it around.

i've been following drones for awhile, but wanted something compact (foldable) and capable of either attaching a camera w/ gimbal or stock with 4K. This is the first I have seen that fits most of what I am looking for and it has decent flight time.

now, in -10F I am sure the 29 minutes drops to 3-4 minutes, but maybe throwing a couple hand warmers in with it would do the trick.

Ya I set up my case on my sled once and packed good packing around it but it still took a beating. The gimbal kinda freaked out after that ride. I now have a backpack for mine but don't know when I actually be able to take it with me. Conditions need to be right and that is hard to come by.
