Flooding or no gas

Finally got the spark on my 159. The previous owner had the kill plug and brake plug switched.

Now engine turns and almost wants to start but won't. When I pull it it turns over like it is firing and then cuts off after 1-2 seconds. Then will not fire up again unless I remove the plugs (they are wet), pull the recoil a few times and then put the plugs back in. Then it fires and cuts off. It almost like it was flooded and removing the plugs, drying them off, and pulling the recoil removes the excess gas so it will turn over again.

I tested the fuel filter and gas flows through it.

Any ideas?

I have tried 3 sets of plugs and there is no change. Every time I put in a new set of plugs or wipe the old set I get the same diagnosis. The key to get it to turn over has not been the plugs it has been waiting for 10 -15 minutes and letting the gas evaporate.

Could the TPS be sending a bad signal?

It's possible that the crank case is full of fuel / oil if you had been pulling it over trying to start it with no spark.
Pull the sled over with the spark plugs out, you may see the mist of gas spraying out. To clear a flooded sled I: remove spark plugs, tip the sled over on its side, and pull it over a bunch to pump the gas out.

I agree get all of that fuel out of the crankcase before you try again. How old is the fuel in the tank?

Pistons in wrong

Could pistions in the wrong direction cause this issue?

I thought about all the things I changed/replaced when I put it back together and thought about the pistions. I had my buddy put them on because I was busy that day. I called him and asked him which direction the arrows went and he could not remember but he said the opening of the rings and the opening in the pistion were to the front...I know that is the wrong direction. I will chnage them today.

While I am in there is there a way to check the fuel injection? Might as well since I will have it apart again.

Check that the o rings on the injectors did not roll or get pinched during injector install. Lube them a bit with Marvel Mystery Oil for a smooth install

If they were, that would cause too much air and not allow it to fire no matter how much fuel and spark you have.

I just had this issue after re installing my injectors from getting them back from WitchHunter Performance for cleaning.

The transfer port in the piston will face forward, but the ring locating pins will be towards the rear. If you used the 05 service manual for assembly, it had you installing the pistons backwards.

I did not remove the injectors so I should be OK there.

and yes I was using the 05 service manual. So the arrow on the top of the pistion goes to the front? That would put the ring location pins to the rear?

Thanks
