Flooding and excessive oil use

I have a pretty low hour 05' Rev 800, I got it with 50hrs on it in march, i've put about 50 on it since then, love it but..

It DESTROYS oil, twice what my 04 1m800 and more then any other sled in our group. The oil tank may last two tanks of fuel. The motor runs good but smokes a lot. Is something out of adjustment? Going through a gallon of oil every two rides is getting expensive.

Next problem, i get into situations where rolling the sled is the only option to turn around or get unstuck. If i'm not extremely quick doing this the sled will flood and not restart. If I just get flung off the sled and it lands on it's side it will not restart either. Is it my floats?

most all carbed sleds flood when on their side.sometimes helps to hold throttle wide open to get more air and pull untill it starts

Those oilers had a tendency for getting stuck open. First check your oiler's adjustment. If that looks good then put a spring on the oiler lever to ensure it is closing.

And yeah, they are a bitch when they go upside down. As mentioned above, it's a sad charactoristic of these carbs

Sorry but not the answer I'm looking for.

I've have been around two strokes and carbs my whole life. I can lay any of my two stroke MX bikes on there side and gas will pour out the overflow, it can set for minutes and still fire first or second kick.

The throttle is closed when the sled goes on it's side or upside down so it should let a minimal amount of fuel into the motor. If I come to a stop on a steep sidehill with the motor running it will eventually die from ?, it should not do that...

I had it roll over 2 times(at once), took me a few seconds to get down to it and get it back on it's skis but well over an hour to restart, pulled the plugs, dried em, checked for spark, etc. We thought we were going to have to tow it out, must have pulled on it 150+ times, closed throttle, half throttle, full throttle.. Something is ascue.

On the oil topic, i have not looked at the oiler, is it adjustable? The idea of it sticking is wise, will look into a spring for it if so.

Thanks

Remove the dpm tube going to the outer air box and blow it out after a role over to clear it of fuel, it will fire right up.

Ideas

First, since you are familiar with two-stroke engines remove the carbs and clean them well. Check the needle and seat assembly for proper sealing. You can do this by blowing on the fuel intake pipe with the carb upside down. She should block the air, lift up the float and air should escape.

Secondly, your sled has a sticking oil pump. As mentioned your pump isn't returning to closed as you release the throttle. I suggest you go over to dootalk and pm a member by the name of bigwormskidoo05. He replaces the o-ring set-up with a bearing inside the oil pump. The mod makes the throttle pull like butter and you'll never have a pump sticking issue. He charges like $ 75.00 for the mod. I did my 07 and my oil consumption decreased by 25% I never knew I had an issue.

Hope this helps.

A couple other things you want to look at on that sled.....the reed cages are well known for delaminating which doesn't allow the reeds to seal properly and causes hard starting. They can also delaminate to the point they will leak and cause a lean burndown. Take them off and inspect inside and out.
Ring flaking is another known issue.... do a compression check as the excessive blow by makes for hard starting.
Make sure the choke plungers are fully seating and there is some slack in the choke cable.
Anytime a sled is on it's side or rolled, ALWAYS grab full throttle when you restart. Throttle being closed has nothing to do with fuel slopping up the nozzles and into the engine....the hard starting is made worse if your oil pump arm is sticking or the reed cages are delaminating but still normal if the sled is rolled.
