floe 4place trailer brake question

Buddy has a 4 place floe trailer. The wiring on it is ****. So I'm re-wiring it. Question is it has drum surge brakes. And a demco actuator. Does this model have the wire u have to hook up for reverseing or how does it work with this. I do not see a wire. And the xtra wire on the 5 pin is hooked to the marker lights. Thanks

Surge will usually have a pin in the hitch assembly that is inserted to back up. Just like most boat trailers!

I know that. But on the trailer side of things there is nothing for the 5th wire. Its actually hooked into tail lights right now

Only electric brakes will have an electrical cutout. Surge brakes are a hydraulic mechanical set up that will not release (electrically when backing up) Many times there is a lever or a spot to insert a pin so the brakes will not lock up backing uphill.

That is incorrect.
In fact electric brakes would not need the over-ride since tongue compression has no effect on el. brakes.

disc brakes have the blue wire to activate a solenoid to bypass the fluid when backing up, I don't think any of the drum brakes had this blue wire ( reverse lights ) they had the pin to put in or wouldn't lock backing up, good luck

Oh, I learn something new every day!!

I thought the electric brakes would bind up in reverse if you put the brake on....

It looks like our man did not take my advice,,,,,,,,,,, Which is the best advice I could give him....... LOL
