Floating the secondary on the M?

WTF! I cant get my clutch to go 3000 miles let alone a belt with the way we ride here. I am happy if I can get 300-400 miles before I start to lose rpms then it gets pitched. Still looks "LIKE NEW" but actualy is shot. If you want I will give you all my "LIKE NEW" take offs.

Obviously you guys have way worse luck than I do. I just replaced my primary that had 7400 miles. But, like I said I am very meticulous about cleaning and maintaining all my equipment. :face-icon-small-coo

x2^^^ john is definitely above average in terms of maintaining and getting the most out of his sled. Watched him outrun a brand new piped 800 xp a couple times on his stock m7 last weekend out in the snowies. :face-icon-small-hap

oh and I can attest that john has basically two speeds. 1) stopped 2) wfo!!!

Oh yeah you're right!! Boondocking in the trees all last weekend in the snowies isn't hard riding. Or ditch banging back home isnt hard riding either. But, I forgot you probably know everything, right???? :face-icon-small-sho Seriously, if you maintain your clutching and know how to ride then there is no reason you can't get 3000 miles out of a belt. If there is no slipping and your not a moron that forgets the track brake on I see no problem with running a belt high mileage.

Keep bangin those ditches and telling yourself you're riding hard. I wasn't trying to get into a pissing match with you, and you're right, I have no idea what I'm talking about. This whole snowmobiling thing is new to me, my bad. Carry on with your greatness!

REALLLY????? Not trying to get into a pissing match?? Then keep your mouth shut. And for your ignorant a$$ to say banging ditches isn't riding hard is about the most assinine thing I've heard anybody say. How bout you add another 3" lift to your truck to compensate for your small Dik, buddy.:face-icon-small-sho

I'm sure BigHoe is extremly repentful. I have nothing but admiration for you myself. I've never seen anyone get 3000 miles on a belt with hard riding, so my hat is off to you.

Clearly those ditches are much harder on belts than over the hood powder and 50 or 60 degree climbs, day in a day out. Whatever, like I said, you're a sled god, sorry I questioned your awesomeness.

Wow!:face-icon-small-con

He's exactly right dude.

Always floated all my chaincase Cats. Never blew a belt. Not ONE.

So have I, on a chaincase chassis...for over 20 years now, pretty simple thing to do.
The question posed here is on an M chassis...with a diamond drive...whole new ballgame...not so simple.

I agree with maintenance and alignment.
So far I got you where riding a stock M7, even at that 3000 is about double the life I would expect. and 1500 is a hell of a lot. But I guaranty you wont get that life out of a piped m1000 without a chit load of money in clutching and as many extra motor mounts as you can put on the motor. The little m7 is a still a bad a$$ sled but there are a lot more things to factor in, like riding style, and rider weight. I would like to see 3000 miles proven, not to bash, just hard to believe as I have never seen 1500 and the belt still in good performance condition.
O and your a little out of hand and being a douche about it, I could get on your sled and blow the belt in a day easy from riding hard/not carring.
Big hoe just said your not riding hard enough, which could have different meaning or just sarcastic.
He also knows his chit.

Now I'll go get the popcorn.

Remind me of the elevation of those ditches are you are ridin in. Must be alot harder than pounding away at 8000-10000 in elevation.

By the way my clutches come apart every three rides for cleaning and maintnance. I also am very anal about my sled.

lets get someone from that billings shop or someone who has the "float mod" done to a dd shaft get in here and enlighten us to the possibilities. the splined shaft shouldnt be an issue as yamaha runs splined jackshafts, and they have been floating clutches for a loooooooong time. the theory is sound. we just need some developement for the dd. lets get this thread back on course. ski

Thats exactly my point! I do care about my chit. Compare apples to apples, yes I have an M7. Obviously your M1 goes through more belts than a 7. Ding ding ding, you are very observant. Im not trying to get internet gang raped, I simply stated that I have put high miles on my belt with very good luck. You don't have to believe it, or like it for that matter. For anybody that doesn't know me to question how hard I ride, can piss off. My rant is done. Sorry to hijack.

Its like the dumb and dumber show on this thread. And to think they want me to pay for this ****.

I had a 2000 700 Rmk that i had for many years, i sold it with about six thousand miles and ran the same belt from the day i bought it, changed track and ice picked it and drag raced it about 6-7 years ago when it didnt snow in mn, went from a 136-151 track later and rode the crap out of it out west every winter and rode it like i stoll it around mn, i was truely amazed on how long this one belt lasted on that sled, the secondary did float on it, it was always fun racing ski doos, and at the end of the pull they would stop and and open there hood and be pulling belt chunks out darn near everytime, the secret has gotta be keeping your motor tight in one place, and the floating has got to help tremendously.
