Does anyone know the reason why the drive shaft top gear in the chain case has no teeth and just floats on the shaft. Just installed my manual tensioner and am curious as to why that gear just sits on the shaft. Any info would be great.

It is made so to make the reverse work.
Makes sense it just seems not very efficient
