fliping skis

What are you trying to fix?

Wider stance = harder to get on edge, but maybe more stability on trails? Arguably would effectively soften front suspension, as the lever arm would get longer.

Seems like trail/race sleds are wider, mountain sleds are narrower. I'm guessing there's a reason for that, probably mostly due to ability to get the thing up on one ski.

I'm curious what you're trying to _fix_, though.

it might make it tough to put on carbides too!:face-icon-small-hap
jus kidding!
if you swap the mountain skis from side to side it should give you a wider "base" in the fluffy stuff (but it may also throw more snow up in your face- cause of the flat surface being on the inside edges-dunno) but i think on hard pack it'll be technically a narrower stance- cause the keels & carbides will be closer together by a full ski width....just my $.02

just what are you trying to accomplish:face-icon-small-con? depending on the year of sled you may be able to change to some shorter radius rods to bring the skis closer together (think '01 rods are @ an inch shorter than the '03s for a 2" narrower stance-@ 39" c-c instead of 40") or an aftermarket set- but they will add more ski pressure unless you have the shocks with the threaded adjusters to reset the suspension height/preload...if the problem is that it's a little too much effort to "pull over" in the fluffy stuff -you can try the "reverse carve" technique (point the tips the "wrong" way and lean-you'll pretty much fall over:rockon:) or swap to the earlier flex style but you'll loose some flotation on the front end...

I switch mine this year and it made a big difference in stability on packed snow and also throws less snow in my face. I have'nt notice any change in the powder. I'm guessing this is on a 2002 summit?

If this is an 02 I did it made a little better trail but its beast to side hill if its the mountain ski's your talking about? If you want it to lay over take out your sway bar massive difference!

sway

hey cntrvl i hear taking the sway bar out of the zx is a bad move how does it help the doo... I have taken them out of both my poo's just for side hilling but some say it makes the doo dart really bad???

i have a 02 summit zx with the mountain skies on it with out a sway bar and its sweet in powder but now i've been seeing it shooting around a little in the set up snow but i have been thinking its more the skies that is making the difference

I Have an 01 Summit 700 144 with the Doo Mountain ski's that came with it originally. I rode it last year with the sway bar in and pulled the bar this season. The sled definitely is easier to lay over to side hill, carve, do surf turns ect... in anything over 6-7 inches of the fluffy. The sled does dart more on hard pack trails but it certainly isn't intolerable. I have heard many posters say that a pair of Simmons Gen 1 ski's will fix that and make it even better in the light stuff and the deeper it is the better they are.

I did pick up a pair of the Gen 1's but now I will probably sell them separately as I just upgraded to an 06 Rev 800 and my Summit is currently for sale locally.

Many also say to just cut the sway bar out... don't know why as they are fairly easy to pull intact so I pulled mine intact so I could put it back in if I didn't like it... but I do like it so the next owner can have it if they want it..

how much would you like for the skis?????

Everything gets to be a trade-off, take the sway bar off, much better off trais, wants to lift a ski when cornering on trails. Guess it depends where you want best handling.
Yes you can swap the skis on the 02, even better, get rid of the junk Mtn. skis and pick up a set of take-off Pilot 6.9's from a newer sled. I run Powder-Pros and they will even dart a little on the packed trail if there are keel tracks from sleds before, how much depending on how aggressive skis have been there before you. C&A's leave a helluva track.
