flatbed for sledding and daily use

I am in the market for a 99-03 ford superduty powerstroke. I am only interested in a long bed, so the question I have more or less pertains to flatbeds vs regular bed with a sled deck. Last season I had a flatbed on my truck that I built so I could haul around 2 sleds for the winter, summer came and the regular box went back on. The deck was built only to haul the 2 sleds, it wasn't heavy duty, and it was on a short box, so handling wasn't the greatest. There were also no pocket stakes or any options for putting sides on it. I loved having the flatbed for bringing the sleds around and it was much lower than a sled deck. My problem was that you couldn't just throw stuff in the back and drive around. The constant need to strap things down was a big negative for the setup. In my current quest for a truck I have come across a decent looking pickup with a flatbed on the back. I know what the benefits of having it for the sleds are, just curious on peoples opinions on having them for daily use. I would build a set of low sides to help deal with the lack of containment, just curious as to how others feel about it.
