Flat Landers heading to the West for a week

I have the opertunity to ride West Yellowstone in Feb/Mar 2010. I was wondering what set up I need to run so as not to be left too far in the dust. I have a 04 800HO with a 121" X1.25 currently. I would like to keep the stock length and install a snow cross track on the sled. Also, I use a TEAM Secondary.

What primary set up would you recommend?
What secondary set up?
Gearing?
Jetting?
If I need to long track it, anyone have extenstions for sale with a track?
 
Nobody has a set-up that works with a TEAM secondary????
A 121" X1.25 out here is not a great idea.......you should consider renting if you are set on keeping the short track....a 144, 151 or 154 is a good choice and will give you some floatation and is still on the shorter side of things....It will be a TUFF day on your buds if you get here and 2-3 feet of snow falls......Have fun:D:D:D
 
I was hoping on getting a 1.75" or 2" to put under it. If it came down to it I would toss in a set of rail extensions to get to 136. Still like to have a 1.75x121 for fun. Last time I was out there, (88) we all had 121's with less than 1" lugs. That was a stuck a thon..

elevation in town in west yellowstone is 6666'. If you are just staying on the trails the whole time (and they have alot of trails) the highest you will go is two-top which is only like 8800 feet or something, but if you head north to Cabin Creek you will go up to around 10k feet, but keep in mind that trail is only groomed part of the way in. I think north to cabin or southwest in the burned out area is the best place for riding in west IMO. However, I need to know what primary you have and more about the sled to be able to help you. What angle helix do you have in your team? Anything under 144" track length wont work for you off trail unless you are a REALLY good rider. Ive seen some of the 3SW guys ripping around in the powder on their 136x2" freestyle sleds but those guys are like in movies and crap like that.

One word..... RENT!!!

I have wasted and had others waste awsome powder days.
Take it from me if you don't have a mountain sled and plan on riding out west, rent a mountain sled.
You can get around on the trails with a short track (most of the time) but some days your pushing powder on the trails.
Leave the trailer at home and use the saved gas money to rent a brand new mountain sled.

My brother and I will mostly be in the groomed areas and plan on renting a couple of the days we're there. Can you recommend a place to rent from?

I wouldn't get discouraged about taking your sled out west I made my first trip out to Togwotee in dec 06 week before x-mas they had just recieved almost 3' of pow the day before we got there I took my 03 rev 121 stretched to 136 with 15W 136 1.5 track and was able to go anywhere the rest of the group went actualy helped Snowtrails TV film a episode on riding Togwotee and it was not a trail segment sled was built a little top secret porting job union bay head pipe and thundershift clutch arms in primary.With that being said I'm no expert rider i think i got some descent skills but no Chris Burandt so short tracks can go out there your not gonna highmark anybody but if you have descent riding abilities you will be able to get around as for setup if your sled has DPM no jetting needed as for clutch setup I would go to a summit primary spring for lower clutch engagement rpm to cut down on the trenching when taking off as for pin weights just buy a adjustable pin weight kit something between 10g-19g weights and get a skidoo pin weight chart for elevation set at their recomended weight may have to adjust a little when you get there but clickers should be able to get you pretty close can't help with the team secondary never ran one on my 03 i used the stock helix for a trail sled and just ran a little stiffer spring to gain a little more belt squeeze and help with the backshifting if you don't have DPM i would suggest buying a holtzman atacc set it and never jet it again sorry for the long post just been where you are and know its just not the same if your not on your own sled and my opinion is if your not gettin stuck you ain't ridin!!! P.S. the most important thing you could buy and learn how to use if you take your own sled is a snowbunje :beer;
 
I ride a 141 and sometimes it’s too short, on big powder days Especially the short track does not keep you a float in the deep and steep I have to ride harder than them that has a 153 you should consider renting. With A 121" X1.25 or a 136" you are going to get stuck a lot. And I mean a lot But in years past we have ridden a 136” EXT 580 and had fun with it,
no High marking done there,
you’d be lucky to get to the top unless it was spring snow. You’ll end up in mostly groomed areas you’ll get tired of digging it out If you do take it you will really have to ride it hard but you will get stuck its best to rent a sled that’s made for the mountain.
 
We're going to West Yellowstone the first week of March 2010. As for the adjustable pins, got-em, I'll check the book for a Summit set up for primary settings and adjust from there. I have a call into TEAM for the secondary questions (they better know, it's their stuff). As for the carb, jetting issue, I was going to toss in a dial a jet system. It has worked on the race sleds very well. The DPM or aftermarket stuff does work nice, EFI with a turbo would be better :-P

Any recommendations for rental shop????
