fix kit out of spec??

not to open any can of worms but has anyone found a problem with clearence on 2009 cylinder and the fix kit pistons? Too small too big??? thinking about doing it but dont have any way to have the cylinder and pistons measured (long way to a machine shop) and was hopping to just buy it and check ring gap and install into new refurbished cylinder. PISTON-WALL CLEARANCE

You can get pretty close checking piston to wall clearance with a simple feeler gauge.

Place the new piston into the cylinder, and check it at the long part of the skirt (90* to the wrist pin)

I installed new 2009 cylinders along with the Fix Kit. The pistons both had 005" clearance and the ring end gap was spot on at .020"

No issues so far and it was a lot easier than splitting the case to re-bore the case halfs to fit 2010 cylinders. You can always have your cylinders recoated.

The one I did last week was spot on with the stock cylinder and I had to file the ring gap a little bit.

It is not to hard, or to expensive to get the tools you need to check clearances. I don't think the cylinders will be out of spec, just the stock pistons. I have rebuild many engines, but I would say I am a beginner when it comes to rebuilding engines because I have never worried about clearances until I bought a dragon. Here is a thread on how I checked the clearances. http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2772094#post2772094

Don't get me wrong I think the "fix kit" is a awesome idea, but IMO the large success of the kit are due to the fact the wiscoe pistons are not a weak "cast" piston, and they are "in-spec." I went with just wiscoes pistons and not the fix kit, because it was back-ordered. I will see after this season how my pistons look and how they held up to see if my theory can be validated. Of course with these engines I think the fix kit is good because why not do as much preventive action as possible. I just was not patient to wait when they were backlogged so I just went with the topend kit because IMO anything is better than stock.
