fix hood to fit right

what exactly do you need to do inorder to fix the 09 hood problem were they dont fit right? mine only sits back a 1/4 inch if that on one side the other is flush.

Take the two hood hinge bolts loose & then set the hood back on so it has the fit you want. Measure the distance the existing mount is off so that you can remove the bumper and move the hinge mount those same measurements. I changed the rivet locations so that the holes wouldn't weaken the bumper.

It's really only an hour at most to make the fix. The bumper is easy to remove. Should be covered by warranty too, but so easy to fix why bother hauling the sled downs to the dealer.

man that sounds like a lot of work I think ok just going to let mine hang off on one side a little. Maybe a tree will fix it someday.

If that is too much work I would hate to see your sled after a year of maintnance!

I hope for your sleds sake you dont find that tree. your sled will never get fixed!:face-icon-small-sho

what does the fit of the hood have to do with maintnance. My sleds are never pretty but they always run my m7 had a stiched up hood and different color a arms who cares. I'm sure you keep you mountain sled looking pretty all year on the trail that's just not my style but to each his own.

:D after a couple of rollover everything will be fine, I have a 09 D8 163 and dont care about hood fitment too, I care about my clutchs, my gearing and every other part that affects driveability
:D

Hood hinge gap, who's got a fix?

The factory gap behind the front bumper is HUGE on the 09-10 front ends. Snow is pouring in there filling up the front of my sled with wet mush, and I suspect its adding some unwanted weight. Apart from blocking the vents, who has a fix for some sort of dam at the hood hinge to block that giant gap? Post up some pics! Thanks

I got a roll of screen door mesh from local hardware store & cut to fit the gap. Then used a hot glue gun to keep it in place. Its working like it should.

If the sled is still under warranty your dealer should be able to get this bracket and it lowers the hood down for a better fit.
The fitment issue should be taken care of by installing hood bracket part number 1017254.

Hood bracket Number 1017254 is another stock bracket.... It is what you do with the stock bracket as ron points out above that puts the hood in the right place.

GCMCI, is there some other part number that is some type of "lowering" bracket?

For the gap in the center of the nose, between the hood and belly pan, I made a flexible seal made from black Gorilla tape, and attached it the the hood and belly pan. I used enopugh tape to allow the hood to be opened. I connected the two pieces to make one large seal, it tucks into the opening when the hood is closed.

It has lasted 1600 miles and sub zero temperatures, icing all while allowing hood opening and closing. I just looked at it and it could use a re-tape.

I removed the two vents on either side of this and cut SLP intake material to about 3/8" larger than the vents, then I installed the vents onto the cowling and Bam!, instant snow seal.

MH This is what I was told to do on a VERY poor fitting hood which did take care of the fitment issue

i did the same thing but to all the vents on the hood, except the one over the exhaust. looks cool and keeps snow/ moisture out.:D

As long as we are talking sealing, what is the best black silicone to use to seal up areas around the belly pan??? ie around shock towers!!!!!
