Fish out pullcord?

tie a knot in front of your pull handle when you're done... that way when your handle knot breaks you have another knot there to hold the rope from going in the housing again...

rookies

I have to pull the engine on my sled to change the recoil. it is a modified Pro-xr and it broke this summer. I pulled the engine and changed the cord. Get it back together and realized i didn't pre-load it. Pull the engine and do it right this tme.

two weeks later, that cord broke. Time to pull the engine again but this time, I am using climbers rope.

I'm in your club. 999 Cat twin in a Rev and I have to pull the engine to get at mine as well. Lets just say after the first time I had trouble with it, I bought a new recoil and upgraded the rope.

If you use the good rope and tie the right knot, it's not an issue. (pardon the pun)

Yep!

Ditto on that one, do it to all mine. Also whenever I replace the rope I use the blue winch rope that you may have seen on some ATV's. I buy it at my local Polaris dealer. That stuff is super strong!!

Its not that bad

Like everyone else said, just pull your pipes off and the hole starter, spin like the other guy and sitck it through the hole and reasemble. Just dont remove the center bolt and if you do not that hard to figure it out. Although it has happen to me a couple times and i found it easier just to buy a new starter. you can get them for lest than a $100.

Well I had to take the center bolt out and replace the spring....the old spring was shot. Then I put the new spring in backwards....UUGH....well it is in right now and working good....thanks for all the advice. It was definitely a learning experience. I put a new water pump belt on and used climbing rope for the pull cord...the old pull cord was hammered too.
