Fish Lake

Just Started Snowing!

There is very little snow to the south of the lake. there is quite a bit out towards trinity, but it is ICE, need scrachers. Went to miners ridge last friday, great snow for Holtz suspension shopping (lots of hidden stumps, ect)!!

We have been riding out of the community, but with back-up sleds, whitch need new scags anyway. The weather service is saying light snow for the next 7+ days.

Let me know if you come over...

Was up on sat and sun. Pretty bad for this time of year! ice all the way up to about 3-4k. If your a praying man then pray for snow!!
On a side note can somebody fill me in on the laws regarding wheeled vehicles on groomed snowmobile trails? Not gonna call anyone out but...i thought after the grooming started wheeled vehicles where prohibited:confused:

That's correct, not legal. Even illegal for those quads with tracks unless they get a special permit from the FS...

Kinda lawless this week over here... every once in a while someone, non sleder, will drive out on the icy trails. We went out and found 6+" of fluffy stuff today, had to trailer a little way. 1-3" tonight. Wish i had the patent on wear bars seen a lot of sparks on the community roads this week:eek:

We were out there as well over the holiday and Sugarloaf/French Corral areas still aren't groomed, so as per Forest Service (we called them as we were curious too), roads haven't been all closed to wheeled vehicles yet, so be weary...

Thats what i thought too. Im not up on the laws on the east side. I do know that the west side snow parks are closed after a pre-determined amount of snow has fallen. I did however see several signs this weekend stating "NO WHEELED VEHICLES ON GROOMED SNOWMOBILE TRAIL". I'll take that as enough evidence that the grooming has started.

FYI this is the most current info posted on their website:

The Chelan Ranger District reminds you to be prepared for winter conditions, especially since weather conditions change rapidly and dramatically this time of year. Be equipped for snow and icy roads and carry extra supplies for emergencies, and please respect the seasonal road closures as they facilitate safe use of National Forest Roads for all recreationists.
For current winter recreation information, please contact the Chelan Ranger Station at 509-682-4900. All Forest Service offices will close for Christmas at noon, December 24 and reopen Monday, December 28, 2009.

......soooo not all roads are closed to vehicles, including most in Fish Lake and Sugar Loaf area. We shouldn't always assume people are out breaking laws and out to ruin the sport. Sometimes people are just trying to get to the snow to drop their sleds in an adequate and safe area for both the sleds (they are a big investment) and the kids as well (even bigger investment) ... so to the individual who was confrontational to us when we were up trying to have an enjoyable snowmobiling trip with the kids, please do your research as we did (we even spoke to local groomer "Gene" who told us where to go! and park!) please just don't immediately assume the worst. According to FS (called them too!) there is no grooming until further notice. See this site:

http://www.parks.wa.gov/winter/trails/?TrailType=motorized&Region=2

so far (until this trip) every sledder we've met has been really great and helpful... too bad it didn't hold true on Christmas :(
