Fish Lake this weekend...what are we in for?

Hello,
Isnt it just my friggen luck...rented a very spendy cabin near Fish Lake for the three day weekend this weekend.

These reservations were made a long time ago and no refunds...you roll the dice, blah, blah, blah...

We've always wanted to scope out the trail system over around that area, what with all the tremendous grooming they do over there and all.

Lo and behold...snow level is going to go way up and the rain is going to slam even the east side, sigh.

I have a hunch I already know the answer, but...is there any elevation gain to be had in order to stay out of the worst of the rainy slop?

Avalance danger to just groomed trail riding (we just wanna do some loops over the course of the weekend)? :face-icon-small-sad

I guess Im looking for some glimmer of hope, some silver lining to make me feel better about the $$ soaking Im gonna get...pun intended.

I like the looks of that forecast a hell of a lot better!

How much area is there to ride around the sugarloaf area?

Thanks for that link by the way...that may help me buck up a little.

Anybody else wanna chime in here?

Sorry, but some hope...

They might close down the Fault-line trail and almost all of the trails will be under the snow elevation. You might get some breaks in the weather for some semi dry riding.

***** I would not recommend taking the few short cuts to elevation as they are going to slide*****

You could take weatherproof gear and take the long route to Sugarloaf and Miners Ridge they will be high enough for snow, maybe wet snow. Be careful in that area if you are not familiar as they tend to whiteout / fog-out easily. There is a groomed loop up there and probably going to be enough depth to get off trail, but very foggy. I plan on going up there this weekend, and am probably going to stay away from the shortcuts.

At least it is a good weekend to enjoy the expensive cabin:face-icon-small-dis

Thanks PowderMiner,
We intend to stay on the beaten path, mainly due to being unfamiliar territory to us...last thing we wanna do is get turned around in the fog.

Just got off the phone with a friend that owns a cabin up in the same area...he said the same thing; Sugarloaf is great if you can see where the hell your going.

He was saying we should park at a higher snopark than Fish Lake...Eagle Creek I think he said.

At any rate, you got that part right about enjoying the cabin!

Just concentrate on the positive side........ less folks out and more solitude.

I just learned today that Gore really is water proof. Rode Reecer ck for 3 hrs today in everything from light mist to medium rain. Only thing soaked was my gloves. Take extra gloves and go for it.

We rode Sugarloaf and Miners Ridge today.

There's really not much new snow. Stevens got over 14 last week but it looked like there was possibly 4" new at best in the areas we looked at.

The wind has blown a lot and some of the off-trail riding areas have less snow than last weekend.

We took the long groomed trail up to French Corral. There are already a number of areas where the dirt is showing.

So, it's mushy, stumpy, bumpy, and wet up there right now.

We didn't take the Maverick Saddle route so I don't know what shape those trails are in.

Well we rode today all over the place around Fish Lake.

No rain most of the day, warm temps, ice scratchers down...it was a great day of riding, well worth the trip.

The trails were well groomed and in good shape.

It just started drizzling on the way back to the truck in the evening...just in time to load up and head back to the cabin for a soak in the hot tub :wine:

Tomorrow is supposed to be drier all day so we're gonna hit it again in the morning :face-icon-small-hap

Hey guys,
Ya sometimes it's just nice to sit back with nowhere to go, no phone calls, no tv, relax and have a few crown and cokes and enjoy the time.

RAIN! ok badazz winter you can start now???

We lost 1/2 from the lower trails:face-icon-small-sad
It doesn't sound like the last few days have added much if any to the usual places. I am interested in getting into secret spot 2A if anyone is up for it? Might be decent snow there, but difficult to get there.

Last weekend when we were there we rode all day Saturday on freshly groomed mashed tater trails. We rode back to the truck in rain that evening.

Sunday we woke to rain, rain, and more rain...I kid you not, non stop rain the entire day. We watched the Seahawks play off game, sat in the hot tub and watched the rain, went to Leavenworth, etc.

Monday we awoke to a beautiful, sunny day :face-icon-small-coo

Rode with some friends of ours all over the place...rode all the way up to Trinity and back, with a lotta little boondocking side trips to see the river.

Did the fault line trails, etc...

All in all it was great weekend. The grooming was excellent, side trips were fun, and the sun was out...very nice indeed.
